Battery light...!

Hi all,

Quick question. My Battery charging light wont go out, i am assuming that this would have something to do with my alternator or battery. Whats the best way to diagnose what it is?

It's on my 300tdi disco.

Check to see what voltage you are getting at the battery with a multimeter while revving the engine. It should be around 14v. If its less than 13v your alternator isn't charging the battery, so is probably knackered.

checking the battery voltage with the engine running would be a good start.

You say it won't go out.

Does it go out if the ignition is off?? If not the diode pack in your alternator is shagged.

If its on with the engine running then its probably not charging the battery.

Yes sorry, it goes out when ignition is off.
