Battery light staying on .Loss of power steering

Good Morning all... I have a 2005 TD6 Range Rover ....This morning I went for milk etc .On my way home the battery light came on and I had loss of power steering ..I stopped and found the drive belt had broken .I was only 1/2 mile from home so I drove back safely.. Is there only 1 belt or is there 2 ..Is this belts a easy enough job to replace .How is this job done also am I better to get a genuine belt or an aftermarket one ..Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Check all the pulleys as well and do the lot. It can be done from above and below but just give yourself enough time and don't rush it. Also check for damage as there is a lot of plastic that can be smashed as the belt let's go. ;)
 
Decent aftermarket will be ok. Having the special long and thin tool to move the tensioner pulley helps a lot. Check all the pulleys for problems, especially the tensioner pulley itself.

Thanks Mark and Western Slope for your replies.. I used to have a RAVE Cd with details etc on this for me to follow I might have to go online to get a diagram to do this . Is there a complete kit which includes the pulleys and belts that you know of ..Do Gates do kits etc ..What length is the drive belt ..There was no noise etc when the belt broke .Just the battery light and power steering . I will take my time over this with your advise and not rush ..I do have another car which I'll use for now.. I have a breaker bar for moving the tension pulley ..

Hi Wilson. Somewhere in the technical archive , on this site, there is a link to RAVE. I'd search it for you but soooooo not up to it, so hopefully knowing it is here will help.

Belts not hard to change it’s more the access can be difficult. You can slip the belt over without removing the viscous fan if you can get your head around it. Dayco I fitted not expensive and passed the test of time. Just be careful with the tensioner, any twist and the arms can snap quite easily. Slow steady pressure until it releases.

Hello RangeRoller ..I appreciate your time explaining things to watch out for and great help ..Its because members like everyone on here with their vast Knowledge and experience in everyone helping each other make a Land Rover /Ranger Rover worth owning ..
