Battery Clamp Problem

Hi all today i tried to remove the battery ,but the 13mm bolt is just turning that holds the plastic clamp to restrian it , i could not feel a nut on the other end have i missed something or is it a hacksaw job !

common problem. nut is in plastic underneath - yu is buggered ,
tiz caused by allowing it to sieze. coppaslip is the answer when yu eventually get it sorted.

yep had same problem, best hacksaw off and modify it with a new bolt and nylock nut as i have, now works a treat

Mine had some sort of captive (which didn't stay captive) brass thing in the plastic molding, I had to remove the whole battery tray (which may not be easy with the battery bolted to it).
It did occur to me that there's enough room behind the headlight to get a Dremmel or similar down there to cut a hole or slot in the front of the tray, big enough to get some bent-nosed pliers or mole grips in to hold the nut, the battery tray looks strong enough to take a bit of mutilation, unlike many other parts on the car.

After removing the remains of the captive nut a roofing type 'J' bolt is an easy solution.
A wing nut makes removal even easier.

Again thanks for advice given , i used a junior hacksaw and cut just under the bolt washer through the plastic clamp , a drop of 3in1 oil gave a smoother cut it took only 5 mins better than i thought , then with the clamp removed a sharp blow with a hammer to the rest of the bolt , knocked it out from under the battery tray complete with the retaining collar ,another LR design gem i just need to sort a longer bolt etc now .

I know this is an old thread but I have just come across the same problem. How far down the battery tray is the captive nut ?

Its just a plastic wedge with a bolt through it that is held captive on the underside of the battery tray...
Easier to fix by taking the whole tray ...
A roofing J bolt and wing nut work well ...

I took the tray out and replaced the brass insert with a modern one

Nice to hear it's sorted ...

I like to J bolt solution Dippypud, what does the bend of the J attach to ?

Without the insert it is just pushed up from under the tray ...
