Morning peeps,

Could a kind P38 owner do me a favour??

Totally forgot last night to take measurements on the battery clamp hole centres so I can make a strap.

I am not at work tomorrow or Friday so I was hoping to fabricate something today while I have access to our workshop and machine tools, but completely forgot to take the measurements required....

If a kind could soul could whip out a ruler/tape measure and take some measurements so I could fab up something similar to the picture attached I would be very grateful. Not sure if the THOR, Diesel and GEMS mounting or battery location is different, but my P38 is a '96 GEMS.

Big grins!

Not had the morning caffiene yet !

260mm hole center to hole center.. the mounting hole for the battery cover bayonet mount is 25mm from the front hole.

Guess you got an advisory on battery not being secure enough on the MOT huh ?

Yep, Failed on Brake Pads and no battery clamp!

Many thanks for popping back out and re-measuring, I appreciate it!
+1
Mine measures 260mm hole centres.
Superb, cheers Martyn for the confirmation....will fabricate something up

Cheers guys!

Hi saint. Could you please post a small drawing with the measurements of your fabrication?
I also need to make one and don't have easy access to a model.

Always a good idea to have the strap fixed properly....as i discovered when my battery disconnected it'self whilst driving through some particularly bumpy lanes....MOT requirement or not.

Yep suppose so with the baby batteries fitted to the petrols that can rattle about. Not the same scope for movement on the diesels.

The original battery in mine was not a baby... More embryonic. Not surprisingly it danced around just a little.

Do you not have a battery cover fitted Ant? If so the tester should not remove it to check the strap. It is not within his remit to do so. It is a visual inspection only.

However it is illegal to drive around with an unsecured battery - traffic cops would be well within their rights to slap a prohibition notice on the car - preventing it from being driven another inch - although chances are they'd just issue a Vehicle Defect Rectification Notice.
