a there is 200 thou less aliminum in the bore wall than 3.5 as block was originally ,liner has 3-4 thou interferrence fit and often crack adjacent to stud hole ,some blocks were bored less cenral to ali bore than others ,cracking like that started with 3.9s ,some of the worst cracked from new some only when cooling system aged and became less efficient some through neglect

i have a old 3.5 block in my workshop at the moment and as its a old pos p5b rover block it looks a lot better quality than the 4.6 block in my rangy and thats with out mic in it up lol

is that one with the thin strengthening ribs across the valley ,we stripped a good few in the early 90s when 3.9s started cracking or porosity as lr called it

So what you are all saying that I'd have more chance by sacrificing a chicken and pray to the Old, Present and New Gods than taking care of my car?

No not at all if as you say you take care of it it will reward you with many years service most of the ones with trouble have been poorly looked after in the later years hence the problems if you do preventative maintenance and keep your cooling system in top condition all will be pretty smooth well not James Bond smooth more Mr Bean smooth :)

I tested James Bond smooth and the result was

1. Could not start the car after a 2hr drive on the highway (Electronic fault)

2. When Aston Martin sorted this problem (a week later), the gear box collapsed during the shooting session...

So far my P38 is MUCH reliable than the DBS I had in hands, so I will deffinitvely go with Mr Bean smooth!

Note : To add insult to injuries a V8 Vantage I had for test succeed to stall while driving on the highway and when engaging gears, and a Volante gave me a Gear Box Warning just after 30 minutes of mountain drive test run...

took my block in to chesman motorsport in coventry first week of this year and got it back at end of the week, payed £800 in cash

Yeah Chesman are a superb engineering shop, never heard a bad word about them. I used to use them for race Imp engine work back in the 80s. I know Andy Chesman sadly died but they've carried on reputation intact.
