Just keep at it and be prepared to travel.. I spend most weekends in Oxford with the gf so let me know if you want someone to look at defenders with you :)

my 90;

Thanks for the offer! I might have to call in on your expertise one day. There was a soft-top 300TDi on eBay that finished yesterday, located in Oxford. But the seller never got back to me so I couldn't go see it. It went for £4200. Oh well his loss.

Oh, and that's a very good looking 90!

you will be afraid of electrics by the time you have finished with a TD5 my dad has all the receipts and grey hairs to prove it:lol:

stick with a nice late 300tdi so much easier to diagnose a problem also easier to do field repairs on.

Oh no... One more... Scared now.

:D

Oooh! Niiiice! Thanks!

I travelled 75 miles (one way) yesterday to have a look at a very tidy 300TDi van with windows. I'm quite split as I thought it was a station wagon, but regardless it is in pretty good condition. I'm going to have a good think about that one.

Mine is a van with windows and there are pro's and cons really, I found both insurance and tax are cheaper with it as a commercial vehicle (van) but the main downside of the vans is that they cannot go inside the M25 because they dont meet the LEZ requirments, so you have to pay £100 per day to go in or if you go in by mistake and dont realise you have to pay a £150 fine

Other thing is you wont be able to get any multi car discount or anything if you are with admiral as you cant mix cars and vans on the policy.

Woahhh hold on, too much TD5 racism here.
Here's my 2004 TD5, parked in the woods and also next to my Sunday vehicle..

Yeah, I'm aware of the LEZ stuff, I didn't know you could pay to go in though. £100 is a lot. But I guess they have their reasons.

I also didn't know about the multicar stuff, I think we are on Admiral (or at least we were for a few years ) Good to know. Thanks!

They are out there.

I paid 700 quid for this. (the green one on the trailer!!)

And 2 weeks later, a lot of swearing, 150 quid and a couple of late nights... Mot'd and taxed.

They are about. Keep at it.

Now that's impressive! Very impressive! Well done! :D :D Thanks!

Whilst I have your attention.

Anyone care to clarify the 12-seater stuff for me. Am I correct to believe that a 110 with 12 seats is registered as a minibus and thus can only be driven with a minibus license (D1?), and also as it's registered as a minibus, it's not LEZ compliant.
Can one yank 3 seats out, notfiy DVLA and make it into a 9-seater and thus it's back to being a normal "car"? Or is it more complicated than this?

when the lez came into force. i was going to have to pay the daily £100 charge for my 7 seat caravelle. this is because it said `minibus` on the log book.
i rang up dvla and asked them to put the number `7` on the log book so that i would not have to pay the charge.
they did do this, but only after they checked with the vw database, to make sure thats how it started out in life.
so i think it all depends on how it left the factory.
dvla were very helpful with me.

LEZ doesn't concern me, its a bit far:D But Im sure it has been discussed before, have a search mate, and I'm sure you'll find all the info your after;)

Thanks! Glad to hear that the DVLA was forthcoming.

incorrect on first Q

So, this week I apparently missed one in Kettering. Didn't even make it to view it before it was gone. :(
Found one, but it's a bit far away, and the price is at the top of the scale. Then I found another one that I'm contemplating, but I'm a bit unsure, it's a bit far away, and again price at the top.

Then there's a closer one, that I'll go see, but the price is low, so I'm not holding my breath that it's a tidy one. :scratching_chin:

Patience, patience...

:D
