Has any one any experience with replacing the front swivel ball joints ? I have a press tool and the ball joints all ready to go but I have read something about the alignment of them . Do they not just press all the way home against the stopper?

The ball joints press home completely into the yoke carrier.
If you look at the swivel hub, the 2 tapered holes the ball joints go into, the top one is just a plain hole, the bottom one is different.
The ball joint taper on the lower one seats into a threaded collet sleeve, the idea being the taper seats into this and its then screwed in or out of the swivel, which adjusts the vertical alignment of the swivel hub in relation to the yoke.
This is needed because the drive shaft has to be exactly aligned with the axle tube as the oil seal is on the outboard end.
Rave tells you all about it, the official land rover tools needed to do the alignment and so on

There is a big washer that is connected to your drive shaft as it comes out off the axle case,I just centred this in the axle case ,easy enough to do ,no special tool required, grease up the rubber seal before refitting shaft.

get them out however you want...

to put them in - put the ball joints in the fridge/freezer for a few hours. warm the yoke with burner/blow torch....the ball joints will drop in. :)

If your using genuine ball joints dont touch the tapper screw adjuster as your new joints will be near enough to not worry about adjusting them.

You mean genuine ones from China and pattern ones from China are different? :D:D
