just done a tdi conversion to my 90 4c, but i have go a bad vibration when driving, its not the exhaust, and engine mounts are new and tight.
any ideas??

if it was okay before.. then its def related to the new engine..
Check every bolt you can find, theyl be something there thats not tight or fitted right.

are the props what you had before ? if yes have you changed the angles they operate at?
did you split the props (sliding joint) ? You can check if its prop related by removing one and running in difflock HTSH
check for clearances round exhaust etc as engine may move under load and powertrain might be contacting chassis /body

the engine was fine, was removed from my dads range rover that died of rust. props have minimal play, but nothing prop wise was touched, i just pulled the engine out. even on tick over its vibrating everything, slight revs and it smoothes out a tad. i have had the floors out loads of times, and it never made this kind of noise when the old engine was in. i will try pumping more greese into the uj's and see what happens then. i do know the front diff seal and bearing is on its way out, tho again fine when old engine was in. Also today i changed the front transfer box bearing and seal.

I've not read the whole thread, but you say it vibrates at tickover??
This implies that the car is stationary and out of gear??
If so, what do you hope to achieve by putting more grease into a moving part that at the time isn't actually moving????

tick overs quite high, which does smooth it out a little. i might try the mounts again like you say, maybe even drop the exhaust off all together and see what that does.
ive got a 200tdi conversion and they are louder than normal, that said mine makes a terrible noise (read gearbox/bell housing noise) under load, still pulls like a train though and im suspecting a damaged clutch. ( i hope its not)
its recently had a new exhaust system fitted to make it road legal again, and thats the only other thing it might be. ive soundproofed it and that makes a hell of a difference too.

i have fitted a new clutch kit to mine, so that should be fine. it goes really well, and its still running as it came out of factory (10 psi and untouched fuel pump). only "mod" it has at the moment is a k&n filter, cos i havent got enough stuff to pipe in the original air box. no other complaints with it, just this vibration, havnt try'd the exhaust yet, been busy with other stuff

had to change the 'box last week when it decided it didnt like the power of the tdi and stripped the input shaft into the transfer box, anyway, when it was going in, i left the mounts loose, sat it in and then tightend all the mounts up, and now it is perfect, so i found the problem.

have a look at the engine mounts, more specifically not the rubbers. on the drivers side it is possible for the bracket on the engine to touch the bracket on the chassis, therefore as the engine moves on the rubber, these 2 brackets rattle against each other giving off a bad vibration.

Exhaust downpipe can also foul on the bulkhead if you use one of the eBay ones, which would make a horrible racket on idle

My 200 upgrade caused two rattles. The exhaust as just clipping the gearbox cross member and the bonnet was shaking around just hitting the air filter. easily fixed but too a while to trace them as it happened at very specific revs at idle.
