Bad day at MOT Centre :-(

Any advice on the brake hoses, as since I have a lift (its now 2") might as well get extended ones?
Are these any good....

Hi,
Bad news on MOT but it isn't really too bad, fairly simple repairs and relatively cheap especially if you can do the work yourself.
As for the hoses, I would go for the kit you have added a link to. As you say you might aswell replace them for the extended version as you have a lift kit and the braided versions should last a lot longer.
Cant think of anything else you would need, just the obvious thing of brake fluid.
I would advise spraying the hose connections + bleed nipples on callipers with wd40 or similar a day before as will most probably be seized

Not that bad at all, welding biggest bit track rod ends cheap, and brakes straight forward, well worth sorting out

As others have said it could be worse. I'm in the process of fixing 11 failing points from my MOT last Tuesday. Mostly ball joints and bushes, although one ball joint was that bad it was causing a lot of play in the steering wheel (I thought that was just the box needing a bit of adjustment) Ball joints are cheap on eBay

I was a bit annoyed when he showed me the list as i had spent the last 2 weeks sorting it out ready, welding etc so thought it might of at least passed.....
Have ordered the hoses that i have linked to, and then i can change the rears too, and also found 2 sets of track rod ends, first one - Delphi:
delphi track rod ends
And the second bearmach:
bearmach track rod ends
Anyone think the delphi are worth the extra? And plus i thought if 2 are gone the other 2 are probably not too far away from going so will replace all 4.
Also reckon the oil leak is from the brake vacuum pump. I did notice it while ago and bought a new gasket and then read up that its probably knackered, so might change that for a new one since i am doing all the work, seen ones for around the £65.00 mark and also the auto oil cooler pipes i have seen for around £55.00 for the pair so thinking of doing them whilst i am at

Sorry to hear about your MOT but hey you normally get a free second try so your getting your money's worth
Track rod ends are pretty cheap and if your lifted I'd imagine you were going to fit bigger brake lines anyway so not all bad

In all of my days as an MOT tester did I ever come upon leaking brake hoses, never once.

Oh! bloody hell, another Gresham in the making, I assumed 2" lift had been done properly.
I assumed 2" lift had been done properly.
The 2" lift was completed probably 1 week prior to the MOT, and not driven, and certainly not off roaded, and the hoses were next on my list to do, but I certainly never saw no signs of leakage, but like it has been said, this is something that I was going to change anyways.....
I have had a look at them, and to be honest they don't look in the best of condition, so not sure how long the boots have been perished, and the price it costs for new sets, will be doing this - probably get the Delphi ones for an extra £8.00 as they come with a 2 year warranty
As far as I am aware, it is a fail, as that is why so many fail as the body corrodes, although nothing to do with the body mounts or strength, and the tester appreciated all that, but as he said, rules are rules, and it just means an extra bit of welding on a patch, then that aint's too bad...
Well I have ordered the Bearmach track rod ends - £30.00 all in, as after speaking with the garage, they said that they prefer these over the Delphi as they have a grease nipple so you can keep them topped up every year, whereas the Delphi's are a complete sealed unit, so they tend to get more life out of the bearmach ones.....see what happens I suppose.

Thats actually quite a good mot , mine was 3pages at first
I used a bottle jack on the trackrod ends as they can be in there quite solid and needed alot off force to push em out
Also for the few bob more might aswell go with the extended lines

Unless you have a proper splitter which I didnt
Was ****ting the bottom "nut off obviously"
For about an hour didnt budge at all
Jack under if on the end "it does make it twist a little the hub I mean"
And a few side taps with hammer on the ball bit then
All off a sudden bang n it pops
