Back to my Main Problem. Rear Crossmamber

I have a mate who has tryed to fit a new rear crossmember by just measuring up the position and he was positive it would be right.
He is the carefull do the job right type but despite this things have not worked out.

Had a quick word with Bloke from Company tonight he says that as long as the chassis is thoroughly shot blasted and there is no oil or anything on it will be fine. as they done one with oil on and it was a costly clean up for them.
Gonna get more details tomorrow, but he says that it is 55 pence per kg so sounds cheap.
From what I've found on Google the average weight of 110 bare chassis is 180kg.
Will ring him again tomorrow and get more details.

your chassis should be no problem for them at all for them to dip and they may have shot blasting facilities at the galvanizers. my local ones certainly do but it costs about a £1/minute if you use them. surface rusts not a problem, sometimes i leave steel outside for weeks before it gets sent off to be dipped. if the tanks not big enough to fit, they will either send it off to a depot with a larger bath or double dip it.
you will need to make sure there is defiantly no grease or oil residue or it will react with the zinc and come back looking s##t and needing a lot more fetteling

55p sounds like a very good price for the galv but you need to factor in the environmental surcharge and carriage on top probably be closer to £1/kg by the time your finished.

Sounds iffy to me. Ask how long it will be in the acid bath for and say you obviously need it to be in long enough to clear the rust from on the inside of the rails, as well as outside. Otherwise your 55p/Kg is going to be a waste of money, even if its cheap.

Rang them again today. https://www.franklinsteelplc.co.uk/steel-product-services/galvanising-service/ they said that it will be dipped in an acid bath to clean anything that's left on before the Galvanised coating. Price is £120 that's for the weight I gave them at 180 kilos which Im still not sure about. anyone know ??
Also popped on to a local bloke that shotblasts and he can come to my place and do it for £150, says it will be nice and clean ready for Galvanising, got another price to get from someone else too.

I've done loads of used chassis and this is my routine. First off, have it shotblasted, then drill or cutout the ends of the dumb irons, and a hole either side just behind the rear x-member, hold it upright with a forklift and powerwash the inside out from top down to washout all the crap and shotblast, drill 12mm holes top and bottom for venting, my galvanisers will dip chassis at certain angle and it's important to drill the vent holes to suit, or interior parts will be missed, or just full of ash.
Next weld up the holes i made to powerwash it out, phone the galvanisers and tell them i want it to sit in the acid over the weekend, job done.

It all depends on you, and how well you clean the inside as to how it lasts.

They did mention drilling holes will do that before it goes.
Never thought about all the crap from blasting getting inside, should have plenty of time before it goes to the Galv Company to sort that out, don't have a forklift but think I know how I can get it up on end to flush everything out, That's another mission for me.

They always just estimated the weight with me or took my word for it.
I've no idea how heavy a chassis is. 180Kg can't be too far off.
