Back in the fold.....sort of.

Well, having not had a Landy since my trusty D1 a couple of years ago, my partner thought getting a D2 Td5 would be a good idea to go camping and weekends away. So, after not too much looking, it has t be said we found a very straight '03 plate ES Prem. All spec'd out and back on coils at the back, that seems a better option.

Anyway, it needs new tyres, front brakes, has an oil leak (there's a shock) and a small diesel drip. Despite all this we considered the rest of the condition warranted a punt given the price. he deal was done!

Still a bit annoyingly after taking the dog for a walk, there is a leak from the bottom of the expansion bottle, which I am hoping is just a clip leaking and nothing more serious. How to get at it?

I can see I will be back to trawling the pages of this forum for all its received wisdom.

Good job on identifying the leak as diesel - most people assume its an oil leak. I take it its coming from the rear of the drivers side of the engine? If so its most likely going to be the fuel pressure regulator - a common failure on the Td5. Whilst you're working on the engine I'd suggest you check the injector loom for the usual oil leak and replace it if any oil is found and clean the ECU connector of any oil. It can cause strange misfiring and performance issues. I'd also recommend you get a diagnostics unit like a Hawkeye as you'll need one to diagnose most problems on a Td5.

The D2 Td5 is a great truck, and you've chosen a great spec. I'm sure you'll be delighted with it even if/when the Td5 gremlins start appearing - keep the faith as once you've got them all sorted its a fantastic truck.

Thanks for the reply mate. Yes, you are right about the location of the diesel leak. Regulator? Seal or replacement. I must admit I will need some time to reacquaint myself with the engine bay.

ECU behind the expansion bottle? Is the latter a simple pull up removal? I hear there is a pesky little nipple not to be broken. My partner bought it on my recommendation. I just hope it's not a 'pig in a poke'.

The expansion tank is just a wiggle and pull up to remove, do it steady so you don't break the pipe connections though.
