Hi, my wife recently rang me in a panic to say "open the gate quick, the freelander is on fire" It seems that the exhaust gasses had set on fire, and as the back exhaust box had 2 small holes in this in turn set fire to the plastic undertray. I put the flames out and on checking the engine oil found out it had none at all! My wife says the oil light came on as she was driving it home and swears that it wasn't on before. So, my question is, anyone have any ideas what might have caused a sudden total loss of oil? Headgasket seems ok, I've put oil back in it and it doesn't seem to be leaking. I haven't tried starting it up since.

The first thing I would suspect is the wife. Is she the main driver, when did you last use the car?

If it is turbo seals then don't drive it until it's fixed. Turbo runaway is a very scary thing to watch and only ends in disaster with a seized engine.
If you do decide to try and start it make sure you have some way of blocking the air intake first.
Bare in mind you will be in a blind panic when doing it so it must be easy for you.
