Driving off road today in ice/gravel mode in low range and noticed for a short period an image/diagram of what seemed to be the front axle in the small instrument panel behind steering wheel. Didn't see it long enough to see what it meant - has anyone got any ideas? Nothing in book or on internet

think it is to tell you which way your front wheels are pointing, (steering) so you can change direction before throwing yourself off the edge.
