hello
just started a project/restoration of my series 2A

i will be shot blasting the axels and trailing arms ect saturday
whats the best paint you would recomend so i can get it order in ready

i have in mind 3 coats of red oxide 3-4 coats of truck chassis black
which has worked well for the forklift truck at work

toying with the idea of hammered finish black Hammerite

thank you Jase

thank you

someone has mentioned acid etch primer before red oxide to get a bite into it

will it react with the red oxide or not required

new eu abiding hammerite is total crap compared to the old stuff and the old stuff is total crap compared to the old old stuff

tractol comes with a rather large health warning on the back unlike hammerite too! and if its suggesting its extremely toxic then thats good enough for me

what is crap about it? proof as to being crap? or is this your years of experience with using hammerite?

its no where near as good, I've got cans of the old stuff dads stockpiled over the years and the new stuff is no where near as good, just doesn't stick as well neither is it as tough as the tractol stuff

tractol is far better and dries in about 30 mins instead of hammerite, don't even bother with dulux metal paint either

your opinion goes against what others have said on other forums, Did a search and your tractro paint was inferior from what others have said.

try Suncorite 259, gun barrel pistol rifle weapon paint | eBay used by land rover axles many years ago generally parts dipped swivel housing axle cases and more

How do I know used to work at Perry Barr LAND ROVER AXLES in the eighty's
managed to best offer of £17 +pp on my first tin of three quick drying brushed or sprayed better than the modern day water based crap but wear a mask .
using it at moment on my series 1 88inch rebuild lovely stuff

+1 on POR15, did my chassis / axels etc 2 years ago still looks like painted yesterday even front inner guard not chipped. Gets jet washed after each muddy trip so I'm happy with it.
