Has anyone fitted/ is it possible to fit an auxiliary battery in the engine bay of a Mk1 pre-facelift (53 reg) Td4?
I want a second battery for radio equipment and as a backup jump starter but I would weather keep it out of the boot.
Any advice tips links and pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Dunno about a conventional battery, but I'm sure you could mount a lithium 12v. It would be a lot smaller, if more expensive.

I presume a VSR works with lithium because of the slight voltage difference. I'd have thought it would but might need a DC DC converter.

Your biggest problem might be running cables into the cabin.

Hi,

You can use an AGM battery ( can be fully discharged without any issue ) which cost less than lithium one.

I see too many issues, you want to put a second battery in the boot, also using to start the car and for using the radio.
The alternator is not designed for charging 2 batteries at the same time.
If you plug the second battery on the main one, will need some heavy wires.

The second battery need to be "isolated" ... so it starts to charge after the main one.
For exemple for the radio, you can use one battery at once.

An AGM battery is a good idea. I do carry a battery with me but had heard about making it a bit more permanent and also saw an advert for an auxiliary battery tray for a D2 and got wondering.
I already carry a NOCO GB40 which is a great bit of kit in case the battery fails on me.
