Yes, on 1999 and on models the XYZ switch also feeds through C0988 and on pre 1999 models partially through C560 and through (One wire) C559. All connectors are to be found in same area. Theory being they have dropped the box without disconnecting plugs from it and pulled the cables.

You have to remove the centre console Keith i think. Connectors are below area where cuddy box sits.

Centre console is already out on the scrapper
It is a disel though so I hope the loom will be similar. Off to look shortly

Very similar, on later models 1999 on everything runs through C0988 on earlier versions two connectors used C560 and C559. Only difference petrol to diesel are pin outs to ECU.

OK, there are 3 connectors, a large white, a large brown and a 2 pin power connector on my MY96 diesel, all should be accessible with the cubby box removed, the remainder of the gearbox loom continues over the transfer box and down to the transfer box shift motor and position sensor which would also be worth checking. The connector into the box itself is much further forward on the side of the gearbox near the XYZ switch and is not easily accessible.
If the gearbox was lowered rather than just pulled back, it would not take a lot to either part a connector or pull a wire out of a crimp. The gearbox loom passed through a large rubber grommet above the rear of the transfer box, if that has popped out it would tend to confirm that the loom has been subject to strain.

I suspect, the dropped the front of the box which would have stretched the loom.

Can you see which cable comes from the speed sensor at the back of the box?
That would be useful to see ... how it comes through the transmission tunnel and off the the ecu.

Well, here I am back from the auto box place empty handed.
I went to take it for a test drive to find a bad misfire ......
What on earth could they have done to the coils?
Plug leads are new, plugs also (new means 6 months or so). Engine is new.
No misfire evident before, the engine is very sweet ....
Really trying to stay calm here - they fix one thing and break something else.
They say sorry and that they will fix it ...
I'm going to sit in a dark room for a while

If they tilted the engine to drop the gearbox, maybe they whacked a coil. I suppose the plug leads are on to the correct cylinders?Well, here I am back from the auto box place empty handed.

Prepare for a good laugh ... or tears!
Auto box man checked all wiring around the gearbox, especially the one connecting to the speed sensor at the back. All OK.
Then he removed the box and found an internal problem and overhauled the entire thing .... my wallet is somewhat lighter now but the wife is still speaking to me.
Somehow, a coil pack was damaged, so he replaced it at no charge .... showed me the old one - no sign of physical damage at all.
All well now.

Sorry, don't believe it. If there was no dash indication of the gear lever position there was an electrical problem. They are just covering their arse and taking your cash.

The pump nor the clutches would cause your problem. Nor would they show on diag as a fault. Your problem was electrical no electrics in pump or clutches.
