Disco 2 Auto gearbox removal

I'm swapping the auto to a manual on the td5. Tonight I removed the transfer box so tomorrow its onto the gearbox. My mate reckons the torque converter and box might not just slide off like it does on a manual box and it's the first auto I've ever worked on to be fair..

Is there anything I need to know?

I've drained the gearbox or atleast 4.5litre so I guess the other 4.5 will come when I remove the cooler pipes

it will slide off and leave tc bolted to drive plate,though if refitting box has to go on with tc fitted in to box,most of the rest of the oil is in the tc

Dunno about Td5's but on 300 autos you have to take the starter motor off to get to the torque converter bolts

yes mate you had to do the same on the td5, its the first auto box ive ever removed but was pretty simple.

The manual box is now in im just missing the pipe from the slave to the master but the connections and pipe are bigger than youd use on brake lines, trying to find the connector size as I need to order one.

As far as engine removal and replacement goes auto's seem simpler than manuals cos you don't have to worry about realigning the clutch.

I hope that the management issue was covered as well which means connecting the clutch switch circuit and using a manual ECU which has to be programmed to the vehicle cos the mechanical setup is not enough
