auto box 2.5 dhse problem

Thanks to everybody who has helped me in the past -my 1999 diesel range rover has just developed a problem with the gearbox the forward gears are ok but reverse when selected will only creep back even when revved hard this sounds like its going to be expensive does anyone have any suggestions please
