Did y'all know about the vacuum relief pipe that runs to the airbox on a Tdi?

It is to allow some amount of airflow through the vacuum pump, simply T'd into the hard pipe running from pump to servo.

Obviously a petrol engine doesn't mind when the limit of vacuum is reached but the vacuum pump on a tdi would possibly break itself if it had no more air to suck.

Have you got one of these? All 300s had one and it runs round the back of the engine bay into the side of the airbox.

If the vacuum setup is different on the TGV then that may explain your blanking.

I do notice that on a stock 300tdi both large sides of the T piece have hard nylon attached whereas one side of yours has rubber, probably to allow for adjustment of vac pump location on the TGV.

Talking about brakes, I have loads of 1/4" stainless steel braded PTFE lined hose. If anyone wants some. It will need re-ending with an M10x1 fittings (most hydraulic places can do this) but it makes fantastic brake hoses, that never rot. I got a job lot when building my car. The working pressure is in the range of 350 bar, about 4,900 psi. More than enough for brake hose. Just done a quick calc and I reckon you are looking at approximately 3000 psi full stamp.
Another thing that is useful is the 2"1/4" stainless exhaust pipe I got from Aalco. Cant remember the price but it was not expensive. But again for off roading it is worth a thought.
 
Not sure how you got on with the painting of the plastics but I had good results with this stuff.









So far so good and it seems quite durable too.

And with the seals for the roof bars it is probably better to get a piece of neoprene and make your own ;)

That looks like a nice job. I've always steered clear of painting plastics after having it peel and look very shabby within a year...but I guess things have moved on since the '80s :eek:
 
The key is the primer!! I used a couple of other test pieces before I actually painted my car parts and used three different primers supposedly for plastics, the Motip was the 4th and the only one that either didn't react to the paint or peel within a few weeks, I even tried just paint onto the plastic but not good, could have been just rubbish early 90's Land Rover plastics for you :confused:

But this combo worked for me :D

foliatec is very good, soaks into the plastic, but it's pricey
 

I spent ages flicking through the parts catalogue and ordered a full set from Craddocks about two months ago. Got these...

Mine runs up and over the top of the the TGV to somewhere near the turbo.

Looking good fellah! I used some Halfrauds etch primer and satin black in rattle cans. Seems okay so far.
 
Trying to do a battery drain test on my two batteries before I start problem solving my 2nd alternator blip and both batteries are recording 0.00 regardless of what is switched on.

I'm guessing my multi-meter is goosed! What do you guys think?
 
Finished? That's a very strong word where it concerns a Landrover. Is there such a thing as a 'finished' landrover?
