I think I've started somet I shouldn't have if anyone local to Worcestershire that wants earn themselves bit of extra cash I need help with my sills
I have a discovery 1 300tdi 5 door I'm looking to replace sills with 120Mm X 60mm X 3mm box sections unfortunately I've started to cut out old sill but struggling especially at front where A frame and body mounts are an ideally need someone near by who wants to earn a bit of cashHi Gav
First we need to know wot motor ? then wots up ?
Steve
I got new body mounts and rubbers etc thought if going to do it, only do it once replace everything that's there save doing again later, I'll take wing off tomorrow and se if looks any easier lolFU*KIN internet
To do right you need to take front wings OFF, you can then get to A frame , As for body mounts I had to make new out of 4x4 box & weld to new sills!
Its not a bad job to do just a pain if you have to weld inner seam layed under the motor ! I'm lucky that dads got a pit in his garage
If your body mounts are good then leave as much metal as you can !! I cut mine out with thin disc in grinder !
Hope this helps
Steve
I'm tight too but I thought go with the easiest route and buy ready made, I love my landy to bits but it's costing me a fortune and soon losing my patience with itI'm a tight tw*t + I'd got the metal It's not to bad a job just take your time & it will all come together ! (after you take it all to bits ! LOL)
Steve
Yeah mine needs back doing behind two seats in boot had boot floor done and some welding done on front arches but we won't talk about that as a very sore subject, ****ing garage ripped me off that's why trying do as much as can on ownTHIER a labour of LOVE
Mines a 94 300tdi es 5 door & I'v just done a load more welding on it
Front wheel arches / rear wheel arches & a bit on the chassis ! BUT this time I'v COVERED them with FLASH BAND
Think you will get the idea

Not great bought one about 3 months ago still playing with any old crap ican find to play with so slowly learning but have got a mate that welds and he slowly teaching me as due to health reason can't do the work himselfGav I never get a garage to do owt to mine other than MOT !
All you need is a good set of spanners + a HAMMER grinder & a good welder !
And a bit of thought on how your going to tackle the job !Mmmm
How good a welder are you ??
Steve
Yeah it's gas/gasless but I use it with gas as told it easier that wayI take it it's a mig ! Gas or gas less ??
That's right ! 1 of the secrets to welding with mig is they do NOT like RUST ! get the job as CLEAN as you can ! And if you will take my advice use 2mm plate ! Yes it takes a bit more bending but you can play the heat & wire onto new plate & not BLOW as many holes into your truck ! That's using 0.8 mig wireI use it with gas as told it easier that way
Thanks for all the tips and I wad planning on using thicker metal of around 2 mm as I thought go thicker not only is it easier to weld but lasts that little bit longer which is a bonus as once done I don't want do it again in couple yearsThat's right ! 1 of the secrets to welding with mig is they do NOT like RUST ! get the job as CLEAN as you can ! Another tip DON'T try butt welds they are a waist of time ! 10/20mm OVER the top & if poss seal from underneath View attachment 103565 View attachment 103566 The plate in the 2nd picture is 6" wide & goes under the side panel towards the outer wing with a gap left for the rubber seal ! the Jagger'd edge is cut out leaving a nice edge underneath but you can't see because of Flash band !
Steve
There's 1 thing i can't stand & that's CHEEKY KIDSFLASH BAND Steve's here
