MY wife hated Range Rovers.. When i came back with the Blue P38 she was not impressed. When she drove it she came around.. she loves driving it.. (it also helped pulling out of a car park in guildford two guys looked at her in the car with the window down and said 'sweeeet!')

Now she frigging loves it.. she even said yesterday, it's not the prettiest car but it's really is the mutts nuts..

Just make sure you get one that wont be a host of problems or you'll never hear the end of it.

I disagree with practically everyone..!:D
The Evoque is a fine car, but expensive for what you get. The japanese alternatives won't even come close - maybe in abilities, but never in 'feel'. I have driven one (the 245hp turbo petrol version) many times and it's comfortable, enjoyable, pretty damned quick and quite capable for what it is. Don't expect it to be a range rover, rather see it as a Mitsubishi Outlander with less room, vastly more 'grace-and-pace', and a better drivetrain. If I could afford it, my wife would be driving one, with me in a full-fat vogue :)

My misses called me a superficial ponce when I said I wanted to buy a P38. However, as soon as she got in it, she loved it. She loves the ride and the ability to see over everyone's front gardens!!

Posh Spice, that miserable excuse for a woman, was involved with Ejoke interior design - that's say it all for me!!

It's only been two weeks, just concentrate on the honeymoon and that afterglow !!

Ha Thanks, but I work abroad and I'm back at work so none of that for us! Both of our cars are getting a bit long in the tooth, her toyota yaris is getting a bit past it (the engine has already had a rebuild and city cars don't fare well on cornish country lanes, my Astra turbo sits doing nothing for months on end as she doesn't want to drive it to work every day. one nice new vehicle is a bit more important to us at the moment than.

I am pointing her towards other cars as we speak, she has said she will test drive a disco 4, Range rover and evoque and see which one she prefers.

The Mrs has been carefully brought round to the idea of a range rover rather than a Nissan Quashqai, but she has settled no further than an evoque. I have tried to coax her into a proper RR and a Discovery 4 but she does like the Evoque.

Apart from not having a transfer box, what are they like with a bit of gentle off roading? I have my series 3 which suffices for my slower, more leisurely driving and greenlaning. We will be shortly buying a small holding for her horses so maybe a bit of driving through horsey showgrounds and maybe up the field when it's wet it will be used as a daily driver.

So, yay or "neigh"?
Evoque interior probably isn't going to stand up to show stuff being carried in it. For showground purposes, and old D2 like mine is hard to improve on! Plent available at rock bottom prices!
Not sure what the tow rating of an evoke is, I would check carefuly, and not sure how the fancy transmission will stand up to towing a trailer in a field.
I would have thought a FL2 would be a better bet for your needs, though I would still go for the Disco. Tried and tested technology!

Personally, I wouldn't touch an Evoque it looks to me like a Freelander which has been in a bad smash, a$$ ended by a truck (causing the rear end damage) and smashed into the truck in front (causing the front end damage) and somehow rolling onto it's roof (hence the squashed roof)

I would go for a FL2 all day everyday over an Evoque, I am not a Jap car lover but would rather a Qashqai over an Evoque...

I agree with the gaylander 2 comment. Why get one in a frilly dress when you can get the original for cheaper? I do not agree with the qashqai bit, an xtrail if you must but not a qashqai ffs!

If you want a fugly SUV.. i present..

Not convinced that that is as bad as a SsangYong for looks. Styling is dodgy, I grant you, but in other ways that might not be too bad, short overhangs, ground clearance, looks well balanced, and I guess it is all Landcruiser under the sh!ite bodywork. Might be worth a spin round the fields if it had better tyres on!

Oddly, I'd drive that!!

Love the XJS anyway

Yes, me too!

I'm not of a Qashqai fan myself, but my point being I would still choose one over an Evoque!

I like the XJS's too, but You'd never get to leave the petrol station with it, (could be a good thing if it is the V12!) everyone would be approaching you and commenting on it
