Are theese 88 or 109 wheels?

They'll look better in the original limestone rather than white.

I'm guessing it's just an off white.

I've just had a look at the limestone white paint. Seems to be available as a Matt or satin furnish.

Was the original limestone paint a satin finish? Matt white sounds a bit nasty for wheels.

If they are 5.5" rims they are early long wheelbase rims and can take upto a 7.50x16 tyre. SWB rims were only 5" and can only take upto a 6.50x16 and are too narrow for the infamous 205s.

There should be a part number stamped on there somewhere...

This should help you identify them.

Thanks very much for this. I've actually got tyres waiting for my wheels sat on the garage floor. The wheels are also at the garage too. Mine is 1983 SWB.

I'm hoping what ever I have will be alright for the tyres I have got. I did do a search on the John Craddock site based on model of Landy, so I should be ok!

Pictures will be posted if I'm successful! I can see myself having to buy inner tubes though. Shouldn't have thrown the old ones out. Doh!!

The only thing I will say is that modern wide radial tyres should not be shoehorned onto 5" rims. Landrover always fitted 205s on 5.5" rims, as otherwise the sidewalls become pinched and they are not at 90 degrees to the road. Whilst many people say they run them like that without problems, it does leads to a higher risk of the tyre coming off the rim. Do check the part numbers on the rims before fitting the tyres, the part number should be stamped between two holes on the rim.

Yup will have a look see last time I was on there I think I upset some members by telling them that we have a brand new Land Rover 1 ton box (not refurbished brand new) and it will go into a trials vehicle probably an 88.

Thanks for the info. This is starting to turn into a bloody nightmare now.

I actually chose the 205/80s based on advice that I read on this forum and from the John Craddock site.

Not your fault obviously. Just getting a bit frustrated that I could now 5 tyres and 5 wheels that don't go together! Bloody Land Rovers! :D

I think its due to 600x16s not being very common, and people preferring radial tyres. Personally I think 205s look weird on a swb, as they are so wide but not very tall. 750s look okay on lwb rims, or the proper 600s on 5" rims, but thats just my preference.

I was trying to get the look of the tall 750 tyres originally fitted. I did look at going down the 235/85 route, but I saw a friend's series fitted with those and they just looked too big and also he suffered from rubbing as he was running standard height springs and shocks. They were also a bit more money than the 205/80s.

Long term, I plan to get some four leaf parabolics along with some new shocks. Hopefully thjis will give me a bit more height and level her out a bit :D

ad a call from the garage this morning and they got some special Land Rover valves and my tyres are being fitted this morning.

Quite excited, as I'm fed up with her being sat on axel stands :)

I sold the original AT tyres and wheels and I was surprised how little I got for the three wheels. Only about £30 :( I was hoping to get over £100 for three. It was barely worth flogging them :(

Also, I'm still stuck with three Defender army rims too. They didn't sell at a tenner a throw! I think I'll just keep them as spares and try and restore them to their formy army green glory.

There should be no need whatsoever to fit parabolics to get a suspension lift to fit 205s - they are same diamater as 650s, so you will have a massive gap between the tyre and the body, which to me at least looks rather odd. 235s are slightly taller then 750s (I have 235s on my 110) but I agree they are a bit much for a series.
I'm not surprised you didn't get much for 600s, everyone and their dog wants huge tyres for some reason these days, personally I think a swb looks great on 600s.

Fair point. I'm not settled on what I am doing with the suspennsion. I know I need some new shocks as mine are looking pretty bad.

Following a bit of reading on here, my springs are curreny wrapped in jumpers and soaked in petrol and grease. I'm hoping that should free them up a bit.

Will post up some pics when the wheels are all fitted.

Thanks very much for all the help :)

Fitted my new wheels and tyres. Been refurbing my wheels over the last few weeks. I'm quite pleased with the results, but the finish isn't as hard wearing as I would have liked despite spraying no less than 5 coats of laquer on th surafce where the wheels nuts go.

Despite my grumblings, they still look pretty good. I'll be painting me new side window panels in the same colour.

These are the standard 88 wheels and I have a spare taken from a military 90, which I have painted in the same colour. I went for Insa Turbo Dakar 205/80s. I'm sure the 235s would look a bit better, but they cost a lot more!
