Are theese 88 or 109 wheels?

My series is currently fitted with Disco steel wheels , but came with a spare set of the original steel wheels, which I am hoping to fit with new tyres soon :)

However, I recently went to an auto jumble to buy a spare LR wheel and I literally wasn't sure if my wheels were the standard 88 wheels or the wider/offset wheels.

Below is a pic of one of them. Would someone be able to comfirm that these are standard SWB/88 wheels.

I know they are a bit scruffy, but I am planning on wire brushing them and painting them white :)

i got a set just like it brought from a random place selling a bunch, but no idea what there from either!

HaHa! Good to know that I'm not on my own!

My gut reaction is that they are the original vehicle's wheels. I just want to be sure before I buy a spare.
 
hi, after recently cleaning mine up i found that there were numbers embossed on the space in between the wheel nuts . 5.50 x 16 x 33 was one of these numbers, and mine look very similar to yours.

Without wishing to doubt you..... are you sure that is what it says?

the 5.50 is the width of the rim.
the 16 is the diameter of the rim.
the third number is usually thre bead type - "J" or "C" etc

i cant see why it would say 33 - it looks like tyre diameter - nothing to do with the rim at all :confused:?
 
are yu honestly telling me that those wheels have a 33" offset, James - if those rims are offset by almost 3 foot, I will eat my hat :eek: - and before you say "mm" - theose dims are in inches.
 
They are standard Early SWB rims due to the offset or lack of it. Later LWB rims are usually more desirable as are 130 rims same design but the offset and width are different.

Personally I have run LWB rims on my 90 they were shot blasted primes and painted innertubes fitted as I too wanted to run low pressures. The reality is unless you can get the bands inside the rim the tubes will falter. I can run my tubeless 900x16 at 0 psi without them coming off the rim up to 25kmh. I will never run tubed tyres again.

Although the wheels were as new and new tubes fitted they were horrendusly unreliable. I got soooo ****ed off after having 2 punctures one night well 2.30am I drove home about a mile on a bronco grizzly claw because it really really ****ed me off tyre was scrap when i got home but that was due to me being a twot but tubes never again.
 
I'm usually a **** taking chilled out person but tubes suck I have had my 900;s on now tubless rims and no punctures. Only the remaining tubed 900's x 2 have had punctures which will get swapped out for wolf rims as and when they nect get punctured.

I found out that I have 2b rims at the moment fitted very very rare so they will be sold to fund some wolfs later in the year.

The 33 does indeed refer to the offset. it means the back of the mounting plate is 33mm from the center line. the other dimensions are in inches, because most tyres then, and many now, were sized using inches e.g 7.50/16 or 31/10.5/15 thus making correct tyre fitment easier.

I am now on the hunt for for new tyres. One of my BFG ATs burst in dramatic fashion last night. Thankfully, I was only a mile away from home, so I limped it into the drive.

We have a gravel drive, so turning it in the drive was hard work :D

Thanks to many threads on tyres, I shall probably be going for Insa Turbo Dakars. Similar tread pattern to my old Maxxis Mudders and good in the mud and fine on the road.
