I have a 2003 auto that i got as a fixer, it needed replacement injectors as it wouldn't start, i found some at the breakers from a manual engine, car starts fine just smokey under load, i was going to get the injectors overhauled but 1 garage said they are the same the other said they were different but didn't know why? I know that the part numbers are different but then they are different for the rover 75 and bmw but are the same injectors, Can anyone give me a definate answer PLEASEEEEE

Having just put a complete manual engine into my auto - I left the manual injectors fitted and I can not tell any difference to my other Td4 which is an auto with the auto injectors !

I have a spare set of auto injectors which, in due course, will be refurbished and fitted, but I don't detect any difference in performance. Economy may be a different story but will report back after a few tankfuls !

If it's correct that they changed the auto injector after a certain date, then it's more likely it was for some emission requirement, rather than power output.

2003MY will have been released in the last third of 2002 so it is possible the injectors were changed in 2002.

Just for interest, have now covered about 1000 miles in the 'manual' TD4 engine fitted into my 'auto' car and the injectors are as originally fitted to a manual.

Compared to my other auto TD4 it lacks a little bit of grunt on hills, long steady climbs, but.............this is a first for any TD4 I've ever had, it is returning over 40mpg. Just done 300 miles of motorway (60 - 70mph) and it clocked 40.4mpg !

So it appears to be running o.k. Is this thanks to the manual injectors? No idea!!

I've not got any further with mine as the duty solenoid has failed in the gearbox, im waiting for a new solenoid to arrive and then i can give my opinion regarding the injectors, always replacing something
