Are britparts that bad ?

Someone on another thread suggested that it's common knowledge on here that you should avoid britparts spares like buying a 1.8 FL.
So.....are britparts that bad ???
 
there parts are why my car has been leaking coolant for the last couple of weeks am seriously thinking about pulling the water pump i fitted last may just to be sure i dont suffer a failure there

What parts do you need?
I wouldn't use Britfart if they were the last parts supplier on earth.
 
Try to avoid Britpart for important stuff like water pumps, bearings, stuff that you fit and really don't need to be worrying about that it might fail at any moment because it was £15 cheaper than OEM or genuine.

Blimey, that's some thread.
Strangely the local landrover garage fitted britparts to mine.
For years it has always been the general view that OEM parts are over priced, hence people buy pattern or other.
How is any one to know where OEM's or pattern are made, chances are China these days.
As this is a well known site I wonder if britpart read it ? It's a wonder they have any customers.

dont confuse OEM with genuine.

Genuine are overpriced parts, with 80% added on for the landrover badged box.
OEM (Original Eqipment Manufacturer) should be the same as genuine, but at sensible prices, eg timken, delphi, bosch etc.
Pattern should fit, and are copies of OEM, but usually cheap, for a reason.

TBH I find most pattern stuff to be dubius, from slightly ropey/rough around the edges, to plain old it just doesnt fit, not just for LR but for all the vehicles ive had, I try and get OEM wherever possible.
 
Generally if it moves or you rely on it, don't buy britpart. With maybe the exception of suspension springs.

I go for bearmach or allmakes, never britpart.

OEM are not the same as genuine, OE is the same.
 
So we have a few levels of part :
Genuine - expect to pay for it
OE - genuine without the box/labels
OEM - should be as good as the real thing, or close to it
Pattern - varies from good replacements to utter junk

Have I missed any ?

+1, my ****part springs and shocks have been fine, but apparently they are just about the only thing they do well;)

Having said that my wind deflectors came in a blue box and they are alright, not a great deal to go wrong with them though:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Also had a ****part radiator that leaked like seive within 12 months, despite spending it's life tucked up behind a rad muff, still looked brand new when I threw it in the bin:mad::mad::mad:

Therein lies the rub.
Being new to LR I decided that LR specialists are probably best to use.
Of the two I have tried they both use britparts.
I generally use the goldylocks philosphy, if there are 3 parts the same at £10, £20 and £30, I'll go for the £20.
 
I've fitted a fair few Britpart bits the only thing I did have a problem with was they'd drilled the mounting holes for some brake callipers about 5mm out. Sent it back they sent another one and it's been fine ever since :)
 
I don't understand how garages can get away with it, we all know britpart sell some right bad rubbish but time and time again I hear ''we fit it with no problems'' from garages.

How long does a garage warrant its work for? A year?
