Are all replacement turbos equal?

Hi,

I need to purchase a replacement turbo for the TD4 and see quite a difference in price for a refurbished one. The garage who diagnosed the issue said "Oooh, you don't want to go getting one of those ones off ebay"

Now, he may well be correct, but I am hoping someone on here can maybe provide some advice.

For example I have seen this company

Should I be wary or are they pretty much all the same.

It depends on who reconditioned it, what parts and what quality of parts were fitted. How well balanced it is.
Best go to a reputable supplier.

Looks like he is a one man band working out of his garage. No feedback on ebay if you google his phone number you get hits from gum tree selling cars etc.

Could be legit and a good turbo, but equally. Could be a substandard refurb.

I spotted that one, but annoyingly he is away and I needed one for tomorrow.

Got one from another ebay supplier who has promised me it for tomorrow. Fingers crossed as I have taken the day off to get it fitted.

Have had the intercooler and airbox off in an attempt to drain the oil out. Was thinking about giving them a clean with solvent or petrol, but had second thoughts as I think it will just make a sticky mess and make it worse.

Steam clean the inter cooler and air box, S'wot we do at work with the trucks when they blow a turbo.

petrol is good too but make sure its all evaporated before refitting
