Ardennes, Belgium

Earlier in the summer [!] I spent a week or so in Northern France and Belgium. I noticed there appears to be a lot of off-road tracks/trails/routes particularly in the Ardennes area. As we were driving a Ford Focus, which isn't exactly the best off-road, exploration of the tracks was out of the question !

Over a few pints with friends we've decided to see if there is a possibility of taking our LR90's for an off-roading [long] weekend into the Ardennes area.

Does anyone have any experience of the legalities of off-roading in Belgium or France ?

Are there any maps available, comaparable to our O.S. maps ?

Does anyone have any off-road routes/maps marked up for the Ardennes area ?

Where can I obtain more info about off-roading in France/Belgium ?

Here in belgium are two "regions" Vlaanderen" and "Wallonie"
In Vlaanderen we speak Flemish, in Wallonie they speak french..

Because of these two regions there are two kinds of laws, in Vlaanderen you can still do some offroading, when there is no sign that it is forbidden..
In Wallonie it is forbidden at all to drive in threw forrests and bushes..



BUT!! If you can find a local farmer in a smal village, it is sometimes possible to talk a little bit and if you have some beer purhaps te farmer would let you pass trew some bush....

But it is illegal
