Anyone use Event ML698 Tyres?

Hi All, - yes first post (besides the hello) and it's about tyres...

I've scoured virtually every post on tyres here and I picked up that some of you were using Event ML698s which apparently have a tread pattern based on another very popular more expensive tyre.

I've only just got my '03 TD4 and after reading many posts about different tyre sizes front & rear, and mismatched makes being an issue - I've decided to buy a new set to cover the bases as mine has two matching Wranglers on the back, and two newer (yes I know...and the prop is off) mismatched tyres on the front of different wear.

Goodyear Wranglers are NLA otherwise this would be a quick fix.

I want to remedy the situation for peace of mind but as I hadn't budgeted for tyres I'm considering a set of Event AT ML698 tyres - so if you have some real world experience of these please would you comment below.

Thanks goonarmy - did they last or wear out pretty quick?

I'm doing a long 'road' trip (with some planned off-roading) around southern europe over the summer and wonder if I'll wear them out - so endurance is a consideration I think
 
I currently have them fitted. Only a couple of months old. About 2000 miles

Make a little noise but nothing un acceptable, have been great for handling.

Compared to mud and snow tyres there offroad capability is amazing

Would i buy them again. Yes most definatly
 
cheers Rossy - with all these euro ratings is even tougher to make a choice now it seems! How's the fuel economy?
 
I had the ML698 already fitted on the front when I bought my TD4 over 2 years ago. Shortly after buying the car, I had two new ones put on the back. The fronts are showing signs of wear due to the tracking being out a few months ago, which has been done-the main part of the tyres still have plenty of tread left after over 25000miles approx. I have decided to replace them with the same next week at a cost of £136 (Event Tyres). The traction in snow is excellent but as previously posted they are a little more noisy than road tyres but not too bad.
My opinion is that they are a good all round tyre which wears well and is well suited for both on & off road use.
The rear tyres are practically unworn after about 10000miles-these will be going on the front when the new ones are fitted. Mine are 215-65 X 16H rated

Fuel wise, I am getting over 38 mpg (Brim to brim, Synergy set at No.9)

I have Event ML698's all round. Give off a nice hum when on smooth tarmac. I have no complaints with them. They did drop my MPG by 2 (I'm at 39mpg now, Ronbox + EGR delete, inlet cleaned and Diesel Rhino additive in the fuel) but that's to be expected as there's more rolling resistance than the Bridgestone Dueler's I had fitted before.
 
Fuel economy, i didn't really notice any difference. But previous posts seem to be diesels because i only get around 26mpg from the 1800 petrol (although i have had fuel management issues with the lambda sensor not working)

Speaking from my own experience, I am very pleased with them. We live in N. Wales and make several trips during the winter down to the Midlands which usually involve driving over the mountains, usually in snow and they have coped very well.
When I owned my P38 I had Goodyear and Goodridge fitted over the years and was considering these for the F/L. However I am happy with the Event ML698.
 
Fitted a set of 235/70 x 16 to my Disco 300Tdi about 3000 miles ago and they are truly excellent, especially when they only cost me £225 fitted and balanced. Very good on gravel and mud and not too noisy on smooth roads.
Highly recommended.

The Freelander's more advanced, independent suspension soon shows up low quality tyres. Not tried Event tyres my self. I prefer not to pay my money and take my chances.
 
I have to admit that I was a bit concerned as I knew nothing about 'Event Tyres', and I was intending going for BF Goodrich AT's. I use the Disco for marshalling on rallies, often in forests, and for towing glider trailers which can include retrievals from farms and fields.
A friend who runs a big tyre distributorship recommended the Event 235/70 x 16 as a really good tyre and I was surprised at the price. After they were fitted and had done a few miles I realised that they are excellent value. Yes, on smooth tarmac they are noisy at above 60 to 65 mph, but i have run them up to an indicated 80 mph and they are still good. In the wet they stop well and in moderate off-road conditions they perform as expected. I have not really driven through deep mud yet, although I suspect that they will struggle compared to MT tyres. On-road handling is fine and the road-holding is entirely acceptable on-road. Off road they give confidence.
After 3000 miles they still look like new.
 
I concur. I had them fitted to my Freelander and did two road trips down into Spain and Portugal over two summers and they were superb offroad and on.
