Be carefull with so called bio diesel ! I filled up at a back street garage in Rochdale a couple of years ago that was run by some asians. Twenty miles down the road I broke down . No power and would not rev.Probably too many bits of onion bhajis in it. :D We had to pump the tank out and it was like treacle.

hi there, i run a 200tdi and it runs mint on neat heating oil, i dont mix it with normal diesel or anythin and iv had no problem, its harder to detect this fuel in the tank as its the same colour as diesel, the only diffrence is that its smells abit sweeter but you'd have to no this to discover it. if you do get caught its a £500 fine and they only take the car if you have no way of payin the fine or if it is used as a business vehicle. my friends have ran on red and heatin fuel for years and have never bin caught

numpty fool

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, but whats the difference in Bio than running 50/50 with veggie, as off to France soon, and they have Bio on most pumps, so should I just fill up with this?

If you go the bio route, take some spare filters with you(they are so cheap)-Biodiesel(Fatty acid methyl esters)are a remarkable solvent and will loosen all the shyte you have accumulated (without knowing) in your tank and fuel lines from Dino diesel, and dump it in your filter, strangling fuel flow.
Expect to change your filter within 1000 miles after first fill with bio-after the first change you are back to normal routine.
Last week derv was €1.129/Lt in france ~95p-don't know what they charge for bio-over here I make my own and my 300tdi runs great with no issues-ironically it is illegal in France to make your own bio,and if caught filling your own tank with your own fuel, they will fine you-europe eh!!

Will I still need filters even tho I have been running on Veggie for quite some time, and have already cleaned out the gunk and changed my filters?

So will you get fined for filling up with veggie in france then?

Not sure how veg compares to bio on cleaning crap-bio is probably one of the most powerful solvents I have seen-caked hard oil based paint brushes can be brought back to life if left soaking-veg will not do this.So on balance I would take some filters.
I am reliably told if the gendarmes are aware of you filling with veg they will fine you ,what they feel is reasonable-its a lottery. If you are going to fill with veg over there I would be very discreet-take a look:vegetableoildiesel.co.uk - Using SVO in France - Powered by XMB

What's with all the scare-mongering about tax? Surely you are now OK to use anything under the new law they bought in? 2000 Litres tax free for "alternative" fuels... inc veg oil and I presume heating oil

The 2500 lts per year(rolling year) is for bio fuel use only-this does not cover anything of petro chemical origin-heating oil, white spirit, red diesel etc

just a small point but when using bio fuels (svo, wvo biodiesel) within your 2500 limit you are required to keep "simple records" that is when and how much you put in your tank.

I didn't realise that, I was curious as to how they would check on the quantity of fuel you used........oh well better fabricate a little record in the morning:D:D.

No receipts mate, I use wvo so it costs nowt, I'll just have to write in a notebook when I top up........well, some of the time;).

you would have to be using over 220 L / month to be over the limit, best to have realistic figures then the odd 20 or 40 l noted. I log all of mine for my transit and the wifes pug 106 and dont go over 180l/month. I feel that if we play by the rules there is more chance of the game staying the same, if we are seen to bend them we may have the rules changed for the worse.

As above no receipts, just a note book with qty & date.

I am going to be realistic with my figures, no point taking the **** when I won't be getting near the 2500l limit and it would be quite obvious I use a bit more than the occasional 20l as my tanks got about 60l in there at the moment:D.
