Anyone know what these modifications are to my td5

All these stories about failed exhaust manifolds, cracked cylinder heads, blown gaskets, oil in the injector harness yes they happen but not to every TD5.
Don't think of it as a time bomb waiting to go off just give it some use not abuse, service at regular intervals and deal with any issues when they happen. Don't go looking for things that have not happened, enjoy your motor.

oil in the harness is a fault in design. There was a recall on that and new seals for a fix, whch aren't on ebay sales. only land rover parts:rolleyes:

Where did the new seals go?
Believe it is in the rocker cover where the loom goes to the electric injectors, which is higher than the ECU so oil siphons down . On another site I saw couple years ago, they said to make a small cut in the outer casing of the loom at a lower point as it would allow oil to drain there instead of the ECU. Also electric contact cleaner and a can of air like for computer cleaning would be handy to carry in a TD5 vehicle

If the oil in the loom was a design issue and LR recalled for a fix then presumably most were fixed the odd one may have sliped through the net but replacing the loom along with the seals with genuine LR parts is a fix and no need for the cans?

No need to look as the exhaust manifold, you can hear it when it starts to fail, from cold its fine then roughly a mile into the trip you can hear a whistle as it comes on boost and its gets worse as engine gets to full temperature, you check nut and it appears to be loose so you tighten it and the noise goes away for a few miles and then comes back and thats because the thread is pulling out of the cyl head.
No noise dont touch it!

Whistle? How high pitched?

I have a kind of whistle but it sounds like the turbo spooling rather than anything else.

Can l refer you to my previous post, which was skipped over?

However....winding up the boost and plumbing in tuning boxes is always going to increase the chances of parts failing.

But as said above, it might be OK. You'll just have to keep an eye on the oil level for HG issues and if the manifold fails, fit a new one or get it skimmed.

Defo not turbo spooling noise its a new noise and you wonder what the hell it is, second time you think oh fook here we go again!

Theres way to prevent it failing again, a bit of google will show you what to do.

Td5 oil level rising is likely to be a bit more expensive than a head gasket.

True enough.

But l would say again, based on my own experience, if you are going to tune your TD5 take it first to the main dealer for a ECU reset/update.

Mine was alright before, as in no running issues, good starter, good economy etc but it's so much better since l had it done, that it doesn't really need a remap.

The best £125 l have spent on it.
