Anyone know a mechanic/shop in Accra, Ghana?

Figure it's a shot in the dark, but nothing to lose.

I'm definitely due for a checkup on my Defender and I figured that Accra would be the perfect spot seeing as they'll speak English and it's in between the poor roads of West Africa and the poor roads of Central Africa.

I found this place: Land Rover | Service but they're saying I need to register my vehicle for $500 before they can do anything, which is absurd.

There is something clunking in my suspension, which I'd really like to get sorted and otherwise I just want to get everything greased/oiled and looked at by someone knowledgable.

Any advice appreciated,

If you dont mind living with that clunking noise a few more days, I may just be able to help you when I get back ashore.
I live in Accra too and I've been getting some pretty good service for my discovery td5 at a shop I could recommend.... Who knows, if we find the time, we may be able to resolve your problem ourselves....keep in touch

I'm still jealous of you ;)

You had a look yourself? Stick a torch under and check the basics, like if a coil has snapped. Feel it from top to bottom.

Everything looks the part, but if we're being honest I have no idea what I'm looking at, so outside of a catastrophic failure, I probably wouldn't notice ;)

Africa gets in your blood. Its a wonderful place and one you should visit before you turn your toes up. So many different countries to see.

I drove from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania down the east coast through Mozambique and Swaziland into South Africa and all the way round to Cape town. It took three months and as I was working I also got paid which was nice.

My second paid African expedition was from Cairo down through Khartoum in Sudan and on into Ndjamena in Chad before back up through Agadez in Niger across the Sahara in Algeria and finished in Morocco. Epic trip taking six months. Luckily all completed before the recent uprisings.

Both sound like great trips. I can't wait to be in East Africa. My real passion is wildlife and photography, so that's the part of Africa that really appeals to me. I just thought driving through West Africa would be an adventure instead of just shipping my car down. I didn't realize what I was getting myself into :eek:

Looks like you met the local land rover dealership that's made a fortune ripping off those with newer fancy land rover models that cant be easily mended in the backyard of your house.
I'm surprised people actually go to them to have their vehicles serviced.. Really I think their prices are just :der:

They aren't cheap, the company I work for found that it was cheaper to buy LHD RoW spec 110s and Disco 4s in UK, ship them out here and pay the tax, compared to buying from PHC :eek:
