Am looking to improve mpg- apparently remap is a bugger as 2000 reg needs ecu removing to re solder and then reprogramme for better economy. I was recommended a hydrogen cell for £500-£600 which sounds ok IF it works as could move to next car eventually.

Anybody got any experience with this?

She is a 4.6l LPG and having LPG serviced soon. (Will try and start on LPG to save petrol-13.5mpg at present on petrol equivalent)

Are you confusing real hydrogen powered vehicles (either Honda Clarity or the hydrogen powered RX8 currently only sold in Japan) with those daft hydrogen gimmicks on eBay?

They will not improve MPG. A remap doesn't require anything soldering onto your ECU. That is a botch by a cowboy where they trick your vehicle into overfueling.

Get your LPG system serviced and use that.
 
Think someone else has fallen for the bumph. Oh deary dear me. Don't forget the magnets to align the Hydrogen atoms. :D:D:D
 
Ah, so it seems people don't believe in this:) in theory it looks good- but have found mixed reviews. LPG will be first but there are quite a few companies now telling me the 4.6 can't be remapped by their machine. We will see. Interesting article here though

You're right, in theory it should, the advertising is good, if only the science was. They need to harvest power to make power, it is the natural order of things and it always requires more power to return power as the waste inbetween (heat generally, as evident by the cooling fans) means that even if the product did work and increased MPG, the lost power to make the power would result in a negative result.

A standard spark ignition engine cannot run on hydrogen without extensive modifications. The only spark ignition engine from the factory that can run hydrogen is the Rotary. The only reasons people buy this crap is because the kits do look legit and they have pretty graphs.

In the second link you'll notice they used compression ignition engines (derv), they can run on hydrogen with slight modifications. There was a big thing about a handful of buses in London running on hydrogen in the 90s. Is it possible? Yes. Is it practicals? No.
You're ****ing up a rope with this sort of system. Yes it is good companies are experimentation with it, that experimentation will lead to evolution and refinement. But it isn't for a SI engine and it isn't worth plumping your cash into just yet.
 
Ah ok- well ta for info, I'll stick to LPG service and that's it!! Interesting subject though and one which (its nice to think) we could one day run our trucks cheaply again- bring back the great revival of the v8 for the masses!!

Wishful thinking ,even if it came about,the government would tax,duty,levy vat ,etc it until it became expensive again:D:D
