Hello, I'm new to the forum and new to Landrovers!! So this will probably be the first post of many!!

I have just purchased my first ever Landrover, it is a series 3 Diesel 88" I bought it for the purpose of getting up to the stables so I dont cover my regular car in horse s**t. But I have fallen in love with it and have been using it more than my car.

Anyway, as it is new to me I am planning on giving it a thorough service, but all is not well. Having no knowledge of Landrovers prior to purchase I didnt notice that the airfilter housing/location is not as it should be.

It is located on the n/s of the engine bay and is a plastic Mann type not the oil bath type as it should be.

Can anybody firstly help me identify what/where the filter is from (from the attached pics) and also are their any advantages/disadvantages of it i.e. should it be changed back to original?

Thanks.

it has a 2.5 rather than a 2.25 engine from a later 90/110 ,oil bath filter and battery tray gets in the way of injection pump so are removed and relocated, cant help with what filters is from though

no ,you can get replacement k and n filters plus other makes to replace what you have there that just fit over inlet manifold ,unless you can find replacement elements for it

2.5 is generally regarded as a good replacement for the 2.25. Also, expect a load of err unique things done to it over the years. So don't freak when you see replacement parts aren't the specced originals :)

Think of it as triggers broom... it's the same series, just all the bits have been replace umpteen times.

Nothing to worry about there cept maybe informing insurance you have 2.5 diesel. If you get a picture of full engine bay from front we can identify engine for you.

I converted my 90 in a similar fashion. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1350503694.555393.jpg

Thanks for the help guys, it is much appreciated.

My next port of call is the brakes, it is pulling to the left quite badly when braking quite hard.

"Ok for tootling round the yard no ball for dragging horse trailer though!" - The Mrs has a ML350 for that, the LR is just to get me to the stables and tootling around. Well that was the plan but it's getting used more than my car at the minute.

Put a tow bar on it!
They are cheep as chips, basically a steel plate bolted to rear crossmember with a tow ball attached!
I would also fit one to the front cross member/bumper, some times you need it when pulling stuck stuff, like your Mrs ML out the mud.
Lol

being as no one has suggested anything i'll start

first off being as it's pulling left your problem is most likely in the offside (drivers side) front brake

it may be contamination such as brake fluid or ep90 escaping from the brake slave cylinder(s) or hub seal or even a seized brake cylinder

or it may just be needing the brakes adjusting or shoes replacing and then adjusting

that should get the ball rolling for you

LOL - Im trying to convince her it makes more sense to get rid of ML and use the Landy.....she's not convinced yet!!

Thanks for that, I'm planning on getting it up on axle stands this weekend and having a look see if there is anything obviously amiss. Then i'll be breaking out the haynes manual to see if theirs a solution in there.
