I have had one for 2+ years now, and I am quite pleased
with it. I got the front lockable option, and would seriously
suggest the same to folks looking to purchase one of these.
Background - On my previous truck, I had an Aerocover.
Same idea, vastly poorer implementation. You had to completely
remove the cover if you had something too big for it to cover,
the edges/chafe strips constantly bubbled tackly glue, which
combined with the dust from the fiber/resin covers, were a mess
when you touched them. And, removing the cover w/out light was
doable, but the velcro strips that held the supports were prone
to failure (as velcro is, in general) and allowing the supports
to scratch the sides of the vehicle.
The Fold-A-Cover eliminates all of that. The stainless
steel piano hinges and styrofoam sandwitched by aluminum panels
don't create the nast dust, there is no glue, tacky of otherwise ;-)
and you don't have to remove the panels when carrying a load -
just stack the panels behind the cab, and off you go. Very nice!
Okay - a couple of nits. The extruded aluminum U channels that
wrap each panel get damned hot in the sunlight! The sliding extruded
do-dads that help keep the panel closed (or perhaps "more secure")
can be a nuisance when they are on the other side of the vehicle
(and since each side has three, they are always on the wrong side!).
Fold-a-Cover didn't supply any weather striping, which help seal
the gap between the front panel and the tailgate.
I use my cover primarily to keep people from using my truck
as a dumpster and as a measure of security for luggage/etc. when
I am travelling. For that, it does very well, and still looks
good (no missing snaps, no slipping velcro) and gets out of the
way very quickly. Plus, you can access things at the front of the
bed, which seems to be a problem with the hinged at the front hard
covers.
Mine is on a Taco, BTW. That should be the same model as your
Ranger.
