Anybody on group driving a SWB 90 with a Ford Transit 2.5 Di engine (non turbo) ?
I would be glad to hear of your thoughts of this conversions suitability, the people that make the kit say it's ok to run a 90 this way however I have been told by another that it's not a good mod? At this stage I have a "very" thirsty 1982 2.4 petrol 90 SWB CSW which is low mileage with a galv chassis and a rotten Transit with a good engine...... With the kit parts I budget no more then £500 to make the engine swop making my outlay on the 90 £2000 total including original purchase. Anybody tell me what it's worth with the conversion done and without? That will help me decide weather to do the conversion and keep the one I have or look for another 90 with a diesel lump?
Happy New Year All!

Personally I would stick with a landy engine I've had a 200 Tdi disco lump stuck in my wife's 110 and she's over the moon with it and seems to be better on fuel. You have to make a few mods as it won't drop straight in like a defender 200 lump. The reason we went down this road was that I got a whole Disco for £650 took the lump out and off set the cost by allowing the garage that did the work to keep the rest of the vehicle. If in the future we wanted to sell it, it would be easier to sell with a land rover engine and not a heath Robinson set up. I have seen them with transit engines and isuzu engines and they seem to work OK. Another option which I'm hearing more about is the prima perkins 2.0l turbo diesel from a montego. Here's the number of the garage that did it, advice is free 01454 777544 Apricot Motors ask for Dom. Hope this is helpful.

Hi,

If your intersted I have got a military re-con 2.5 desiel which has only done around 1000 miles which will be coming out of my 90 in the next few weeks as my V8 will be going in its place.

Would it straight in yours with no mods required.

Hi, sounds good but will depend on price and where you are? North Devon ain't close to, well anywhere really! You may be able to answer my question about the fuel and exaust system, will u be ditching the electric pump on yours? No-one can tell me if the diesel and petrol pumps are the same? Also what about exausts, do the petrol and diesel exausts work either way or need changing??
Interesting thought though if it's cheapish!
Let me know.
