In the rear o/s panel housing the wiring loom for the rear (1985 Ninety) I found this small black box, which looks like a piezoelectric buzzer. The orange wire is not connected and I don't know where the orange is meant to go. I think it might be a reversing buzzer or something to do with the tow bar socket but no idea really. Not important but I like to know what things are in my Landy esp aftermarket add-ons with no explanations.

It has an orange and grey wire at one end, yellow, white, and a green at the other end.
Connected as Green to loom bundle (G, W, Y, N, R, B, U), Orange to nowhere, Grey to black plug connector, Yellow to yellow in loom, Green to green in loom, White to white in grey connector which goes to white in loom.

Thanks very much.

12N trailer socket has yellow and green wires for indicators, white is earth. No clue about the orange wire, maybe there was a telltale lamp on the dash

Yes, thanks @kermit_rr
From the colours I believe the loom above is the tow bar socket electrics and the little black gizmo and wires is for a buzzer to warn if trailer indicators aren't working.
Cheers.

OK. Wasn't sure if it bleeped with the trailer indicators or bleeped if there was a fault with them. PO had a horse box so that explains it. Not connected though, that orange wire is unattached.
Has no branding or info jus a capital R.

Beeps when trailer indicators blink; a legal requirement apparently (EU)?

Just need to find where the orange wire goes.....

Found a generic ZR1000A schema and orange wire goes to trailer L/H indicator lights.

Well at least I now know ;) not that I use a trailer at all.

The requirement for an alarm for trailer indicators is under construction and use regulations 1986, so if your vehicle is pre that date like my 1984 landrover, then it's not needed. However the EU law was implemented in 1981, so if I were to go abroad then it would be required.
Oh the alarm can be a buzzer, or light or both.

Done some digging and you need some alert when the indicators don't work, this can be your cars normal indicator alerts

My defender has a trailer symbol that flashes along with the indicators symbol when the trailer is attached. If the trailer indicator fails the trailer symbol stops flashing. I presume it works on resistance or something?

My 1975 101 Forward control has as standard an orange indicator next to the green indicator which flashes when towing but was built as a tow vehicle for army it's also got a brake light test button don't know how they work yet but going to rewire with a blade fusebox so will find out...
