Hi Guys,

I am very new to this forum, so new, this is my first post!

I`m looking at buying a 1.8 or a 2.0 td4 Freelander, 3-5 years old.

Can anyone tell me, are these good models, and are they prone to lots of aggro.

Thanks

Get the TD4. 1.8 petrol models tend to blow head gaskets rather regular.
Why do you not consider the 2.5 litre petrol V6 beast? They're very nice ;)

I have a 3.0 litre V6 Jag at the moment. I know this is a completely different vehicle, but I`m thinking economical at present, and £60 a week in petrol for 300 miles is not economical!

Thanks for the advice tho

Yeah, my V6 Freelander isn't the most economical of engnies. About 19mpg on average.
TD4 seems the best for you then. Uses a 2 litre BMW sourced diesel engine. Should get between 30 and 40 mpg from that.

Thanks for that, I have something to start searching with now.

Just one other thing, what sort of price range will I be looking at, for 3-5 years old, 5 door and no more than 60,000.

To give you some idea on price I refered to Parkers guide online.
Freelander TD4 ES station wagon 53 plate will be around £13500.
Freelander TD4 ES station wagon 51 plate will be around £10000.
The station wagon is a good size 5 door. I have the station wagon and find it plenty big enough for 5 adults.

Yes go for the td4 you can get an upgrade to make it more responsive, but the v6 is the beast of a motor, your call. . .:)

Sorry to but in Ming, but could you tell me what the upgrade is and how will it make the TD4 more responsive? I've just bought a new TD4 Freestyle 5dr and would be interested to know about geting the best from engine. Cheers

Well as you as ask the question, and the answer is only my own opinion here, three modes, 1st is a re chip, they change the chip to a more responsive remap of the fuel system or piggy back a chip on the existing [this is now considered old hat] 2nd re mapping or re flashing of the program, this is said to be the best method[more modern approach] might include rolling road test, but expensive, 3rd add on gismo ,most trick the maff sensor but not all ,lot on the market some very good others waste of time, myself opted for the gismo was well impressed, drove a mates motor who had the re flash, and no difference tween both motors except he paid over £600 and i paid bout £100 , but then as i say just my humble opinion, , , :) :) :)

Thanks for the advice Ming. What Gismo did you opt for and how easy are they to fit i.e do you need a pro? Finally would you recommend this for a new engine?

Graham

i would suggest if your gonna fit it to a car in warranty and you have any engine troubles just make sure its easy to remove due to the fact if a dealer see's any engine mods that may have induced the fault they might not fix it under warranty,
