Any advice appreciated EX MOD tax/mot exemption

Hi, I'm a newbie to Landy's, & probably insane for thinking of starting a major series 3 project, body off resto'.
Can you give me some information on whether my car could be mot/tax exempt, I have read the information online but this doesn't give me the information I need.
The car is a 1979 EX MOD land rover, it was built in 1979 but only registered with dvla in oct 1991.
Would it be tax & mot exempt at the moment ( what paperwork/info would I need on the car's history mod/civi), do you for see any problems, I'm also considering changing the engine to a land rover v8 of the same age petrol/gas conversion.
Any help would be appreciated.

It depends!
What is written on the front of the V5 - assuming it is a fairly modern V5.
It should say something about the vehicle not being new when registered and a declared date of manufacture.
It would then have an age related plate, so probably T at the end?
If no comment and probably on a H or J plate at the beginning then you will have to argue it out with dvla to get an age related plate.

If you do need to get an age related plate, then probably best to get a dating certificate from the heritage motor museum at Gaydon. They charge a fair bit, but probably worth it.

Info is on the .gov website. Tbh it is very CLEAR. You should have no difficulties in understanding it.

I know because I’ve spent time reading it.

Mines not exMOD and built only a couple of years before registration but I did as suggested and got a heritage certificate to prove the year of build. Then called the dvla who asked me to send in the certificate, log book and cover letter asking for historic status. I did and about a month or so later got a new logbook showing it was now historic and tax rate of zero. Also got the certificate back. All very easy and saved a few £ on tax for a couple of years. If you can prove the original build date then it’s straightforward.

The gov site doesn't include some info ( on ex mod/ diesel to petrol/gas conversion for historic ) & heard stories of people have a hard time registering for historic vehicles.

The .gov site can't cater for bespoke questions on any or every make of vehicle and potential modification. It just gives general guidance on what is or isn't. As there is no official approval or vetting process, it is there a self declaration on if your vehicle meets the set criteria or not.

Thanks, I understand that but sometimes exact info' is required to comply with their rules, the info' I've been given on this thread is very helpful.

Just had confirmation from the DVLA, because the v5 say's manufactured 1979, evidence must have been provided when registered in 1991, so historic vehicle registration shouldn't be a problem.
