I was investigating the BMW M62 4.4ltr V8 as a potential donor engine for a project and I thought I would find out what breaks and what I should look to get done before it was fitted, timing chains and VANOS were key trouble spots and when investigating why I found that the chains run on plastic guides FFS not even idler rollers/sprockets, even the valley where the chain runs through 90 degrees is a plastic guide FFS.

As does the 3 litre v6 diesel lump found in a4-8 mate. I think my one is in the clear but ill definitely be delving when it runs out of warrsnty. Due to engine position to fix it's an engine out job and circa 3k I believe. Put my off getting an a8 5 odd years ago. I couldn't believe how much car you got for the money then read into it and was totally put off.
I don't know numbers but the 3 litre straight 6 out of the e46 330 is a he'll of an engine and probably the best engine I've had. That was bulletproof!!! The 330d lunp however had plastic flaps on intake manifold which the odd engine injested! A lot of vag stuff also uses plastic water pump impellors! Reliability wise it's got to be late 90s jap stuff surely. Almost over engineered. Are 300tdi non interference?

Morning gents, got the calipers done with SS pistons - as always thanks for advice.

I have one purchase this month - overdid it last. My brake pipe kit will be that purchase and I am after one of the vintage 65 kits just not sure which one I need? Can anyone help me out please? I know its 3/16 and have assumed this will fit (I want Kunifer)?

Thanks

Nice work above, but black is a bit boring :p - SWMBO wanted pink when I did her calipers  She got red :p:p - which Nig said was gay ( :D ) - god knows what he would have said if I had painted them pink ;):D

I've just looked through their shop, and they don't seem to do one for a D1 .... there's a mobile number for him though - you could perhaps ask him direct ....

It will be cheaper to buy the bits yourself .... but I understand buying a kit ... it's a lot easier...

IMHO, Definitely use Kunifer / Cunifer / CuproNickel - do NOT use copper. No doubt this'll create an argument, but I don't care.

( eblag links are full of tracking info - to create a non tracking one, just put the item number after "www.ebay.co.uk/itm" - so your link above becomes:-

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362077339574

:) )

well, sorted, thanks. That's my only half expensive car purchase for the month complete lol. I will also get some clips etc but that's all consumables isn't it haha
