well that explains it then :) ive got countless tools ive bought and never used ! im a toolaholic. just hope i get me planning application passed i wanna get me work shop built. i bought an industrial 3 phase five foot sheet metal guiloteen and an industrial five foot sheet metal bender two years ago and there just sat on the trailor i fetched them on :( i wanna get makin stuff.

The SIP 50litre link I posted - you can get that compressor as oil free too. Which for spraying is better as you don't need an oil filter.

Vivnap, WTF are you building to need planning? If you don't go over 2.5m high you can have a vast space these days, the planning rules have changed recently. When I phoned the council for advice on my workshop I nearly fell off my chair when the woman told me how big I could make it! As long as it's a certain distance from your boundary you can go over 2.5m high with no worries.

If I wasn't feeling skint I'd have a compressor the size of a small family car, that's how I do things. Trouble is I've just bought my first house and have started trying to be (what my girlfriend refers to as) "sensible".

heheheh 2.5m high ? ive just knocked one higher than that down and it had a 30 square meters floor area ! the one im putting in its place will be

6 meters wide
8 meters long
2 story high (about8 m)

the ground floor will have a floor to celing hight of 3 meters the first floor, floor to celing height will be 2.4 meters

if im gonna build a work shop its gonna be a decent size work shop, infact it is bigger than my house :) im sick of struggling to do owt in a crappy tiny lil garage. and the amount of machinery and tools thats going into it that still wont be big enough for me :)
once i know if the planning has been accepted i can get costing it then get the building regs sorted then its all out to get it up ! cant wait. :D

Hope you're gonna leave a space with the original ceiling height so you can fit a four poster in? (and I don't mean a bed for any wimmin reading)

the ground floor will have a floor to ceiling height of 3m about ten foot. i did have a bradbury four post lift with the wheel free things but i thought it would take to much room up in the garage i had then so i sold it. i might have a look at one of them ram things that come up from the floor ? i gotta find a supplier of lifts but ill cross that bridge when i get to it :)

I worked for an old engineer chap a few years ago, he had a cool garage setup. He had a four post lift in there, but the workshop wasn't that high. Turns out the roof was attatched to it so when he raised the lift the roof was raised at the same time! Bloody clever I thought, he even had wooden sides fixed to the roof that ran down the outside walls so the rain couldn't get in when he lifted it. God knows what that cost him but it looked really smart!

I'm jealous of your new built project! Mines just going to be 7m X 4.5m and high enough to drive a landy in. Haven't got space for anything bigger.

its not built yet so dont be to jelous just yet hahahahha. i should hear something by the end of this month from the council then i gotta amend the plans as im not to sure about a couple of things so i want them altering. as soon as i get permission im getting it underway.
7M x 4.5M is a good size but i would go to the max height if i was you. can never be to big with a work shop :)
