Hi I am new on here and new to Landrover owner ship. I acquired a 2003 Freelander td4 a couple of weeks ago as had to drive back to the UK from Spain . The first part of the trip went great but as I entered northern Spain the clutch pedal went limp and started to not return !! Having looked through this forum I was satisfied that it was 95% the clutch master cylinder ,I managed to return to the UK and I bought and fitted one today and it doesn't bloody work !!
Is there anything I have forgotten to do ? Do I have to prime or bleed the clutch at all and could it be the slave cylinder ? Any help would be appreciated

First off. What make did you get? If it wasn't an OE or genuine LR, then you're off to a bad start, as the aftermarket master cylinders are rubbish.

Second, you asked about bleeding it. Yes of course you do, it's a hydraulic assembly, and won't work if there is any air in the pipes between the master and concentric (slave and release bearing in one unit). You need the fluid to push the piston in the concentric, so unless you bleed the air out, the clutch will never push the concentric to release the clutch.

It was from BSB autoparts in West Bromwich I was 2nd customer that day for same part !!
Haing read on this Forum I was told it didnt need bleeding but will take to a garage on Monday as seems to be no definite answer to this

when you push and connect the pipe everything been good a couple of pumps f the pedal should see it ok, some do need bleeding though and do you know concentric is ok

There was no fluid on ground when it stopped working I did look ,because I have never fitted a master cylinder like this it is hard to tell really I dont know if I pushed it together at the join properly
And the pedal keeps staying down as well

pedal will if theres any air in the system try bleeding it

So unlikely to be an OE or genuine part then. Expect it to perform badly.

In 15 years of working on the FL1 clutch system, I can only think of a couple of times where the clutch didn't need bleeding after a new MC has been fitted. It will need bleeding, or it'll never work. Did you put brake fluid in the MC reservoir?
seems a little complicated to me and not straight forward according to the hundreds of posts i have seen
How complicated it is depends on your skill set.
It's a 30 minute job to someone who has done it a few time, and longer if new bushes are needed in the pedal assembly to remove any lost motion, or it's being particularly stubborn to bleed.

theres a bleed nipple were the pipe enters the bell housing, you can bleed as normal or fit a longer hose and attach to a bottle of fluid and either squeeze fluid in to the system and the air will come out of the master or let it stand and air will run up in to the bottle
