Sorry for yet another td5 starting issue thread. I’ve searched and searched, but just found a load of variables and different issues, so I’m still non the wiser? I need to ask some questions to, hopefully, point me in the right direction.
I started getting an intermittent starting problem, where the engine would spin over fine, but not fire straight away. Eventually it would gradually burst into life after a lot of cranking and run perfectly. The problem would disappear for a few days, then return. There’s no pattern as to whether it’s cold or warm start.
I noticed a bit of weeping around the filter housing and replaced it with a new one, complete with new non return valve, etc. The problem disappeared, so I thought I’d cured it. But it started to re occur after a while, so I then replaced the fuel pum with a new one. Again, the problem disappeared for a few days, then returned.
I have nanocom, but there are no faults recorded and everything looks normal. Even the injector tests are showing ok. There is no diesel leaking from the fuel pressure regulator and no diesel in the oil, so I’m assuming that injector seals and fpr are ok? The rev counter moves while cranking, not a lot, but definitely moves, so I’m assuming the crank position sensor is ok, too?
I’ve just ordered OEM injector washers and seals, but I don’t want to just throw parts at it in the hope that, eventually, I’ll nail the problem.
So here’s what I’d like to know. Will there always be diesel in the oil if the washers and seals fail? Does a faulty fuel pressure regulator always leak?
Once started, the car idles and runs perfectly and has never cut out. Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks
Steve
