Hi all,

Has anyone any experience of fitting forward facing rear seats into a 90 tdci hardtop. I take it there should be no difference to fitting them into an earlier model, just wanted to know if the tdci has anything that would get in the way?

Second question, has anyone bought or installed genuine 2007+ rear seats, as i have heard they work out a little cheaper than exmoor trim ones , and the latch part of the seatbelt is fixed to the seat, rather than to the loadspace floor?

i fitted them in my 2001 td5 90 **** easy only pain was you needed to drop the tank to secure the seat belts properly ( thats what i was told ) so took them out and they have been sitting in my garage ever since. dont know if the tank is in same place on yours. if your after some seats make me an offer they are techno high back side fold up exmoor jobs.

I'd be interested in them! Tried to send you a PM but "you've chosen not to receive them" apparently. :)

Ive got an 06 td5 at the min, and im looking to get either a new or nearly new tdci before the vat prices go up in jan, and I will want to fit rear seats for the very occassional time i carry more than 1 passenger,
I havent really had a good look under the puma so dont know about fitting, i assume the fuel tanks in the same place as the td5.

I was hoping to fit genuine landrover seats if I could. My local dealership said that under no circumstances they would fit them due to insurance, registration and also that the hardtop had a different back to the station wagon . I thought it was the same without the side windows, but the dealership also said the same about an after market middle seat, apparently not legal, but since I have seen Roger Young landrover in Cornwall install them for £395 +vat!!!

I dont really like the exmoor trim seats, as the belts fix to the loadspace floor, and as you say you have to drop the tank out to fit them, not a 2 minute job!! The genuine landrover seats have a belt built into the seat base, and are apparently cheaper than exmoor prices too.

if the belts are fixed to the seat base they are only as good as the fixing your seats have to the floor, unless you secure seats to the chassis or some form of reinforcing your belts are not going to be up to it it in a crash.the force will just rip the bolts out of the floor.

The Exmoor Trim "lock and fold" seats have the belt incorporated into the seat. And the seat bolts through the tub with reinforcing plates underneath. It's a neat design - but they're fooookin' expensive at £500+ a seat.

Ian.

I know the integrity of an incorporated belt is determined by the seat strength, but I am interested in how landrover manage it.

Dont the exmorr seats have an incorporated top mount for the belt and a seperate bottom hasp fixed to the floor??

The genuine seats have the top mount fixed to the rear of the body and the clasp to the seat base

Straight of the LR website (and i know its a 110 but you get the principle)

Top mount is an angle bracket that bolts through the top rear quarter of the bodywork. Exmoor belt comes with floor hasp (mine did anyways, double sided so you can fit two to it).

Don't buy the top angle bracket from Exmoor though. Oddly the LR genuine part is a fraction of the price of the Exmoor one!

I see, the top mount is the same as a genuine seat then, its just the clasp thats different between the two.

On another note why are genuine parts cheaper than the ones exmoor sell?....and why do people buy these from exmoor instead of going for genuine parts?

As far as I can work out, the seat belt is entirely attached to the seat. Only the seat itself bolts to the tub.

Yeah but the seats lock and fold like the exmoor ones. so do they just rely on just the fixings though the wheel arches then? i guess with substantial strengthening plates on the other side

Because just this once LR got it wrong & forgot to charge a feck orf premium?

....And because people do, because it's all in one place. I did, then spoke to a mate who said the LR ones are a couple of quid!

You live & learn.

Wooops, hope LR dont read this then and change their pricing :p!

All joking aside, I saw on another forum when I googled these seats that genuine 2007+ rear forward facing folding seats (thats a mouthful!!), cost less than exmoor trim ones. Cant remember exact price I saw but think it was about £350 a seat, and exmoor are in excess of £500 are they not??

Sounds bluddy unlikely, but not impossible!

Thats what I thought,

Maybe another trip to the dealership is in order to price up the seats, and also try and track down a tdci station wagon to investigate, although my 2 local dealerships both have hardtops as their showroom vehicles !!

Sorry to come in on this now but how much are the LR seats, what are the part numbers and are these safe to use with childe seats?

Yes that age old discussion of how do I get my kids safly in the back!!!
