Another newby!

Hi Everyone
Just joined the forum. Currently got a 2003 disco td5. Had it years. Now done 160k. Used as 3rd car to carry the Bull Mastiff’s around, tip runs, DIY trips etc. I’m a time served Panel Beater- and can find my way around an engine. Haven’t worked in the trade for 25 yrs but still service the disco myself & keep it right. Have done EGR blank, Decat front pipe, Remapped, new fuel pump, MAF, filter housing air bleed valve, Waste Gate Regulator. Next jobs to do, Injector O rings & washers, FPR valve, Injector loom. Previous cars, Range Rover Sport hse 3.0 Tdv6 (loved it) freelancer (hated it), RangeRover vogue v8 (loved it). Traded in my Sport for a new 530d. Will be trading the 530d in for a Range Rover Velar (as soon as it’s paid off!) I also like bikes- have a 1200GS LC.
I’m not a member who has joined to get a problem fixed & then leave. I will post to help others if I can. And update on the solutions to any problems I manage to solve! Live near Stokesley.

Just bought my Injector O rings & copper washers from Stratstone, my local Landrover dealer. £40!!!!
At least Dick Turpin had the integrity to wear a mask before he robbed people

Tis only £4 each......LOL.

Grind an allen key to pop the injectors and the job is easy enough.

I like in North Yorkshire.... I don’t part with money easily lol. Thanks for the tip about the Allen key to lift the injectors. I was considering butchering a old pair of small eagle beaks. How long does this take usually?

If you have not seen the site before worth a read.

Plus, iirc , there is a vid on youtube showing it being done with a ground allen key.

I spent my time doing it and had a few cups of tea as well, iirc I did it in 3 hours, but realistically I would say easily done in an hour half to 2 hours checking / double checking everything as you go.
You may as well do your harness at the same time, as you say it is something else you are going to do.

Cheers for the link. I've just ordered an injector loom- your right it does make sense swapping it out whilst on with the o rings. There's no point in waiting for the car to fail... Might as well change everything that's prone to wear/fail with higher miles.

That allen key tool is a good find.

Handy tips for any unit injectors / CR injectors is (as the auto express guide linked also points out) to be mindful when taking the injectors out for carbon buildup (sometimes getting a little solvent thinners down there overnight helps if there is a stubborn one), and if one of the copper washers (the fire seals) has started to fail or failed proper, the seat itself will need cleaning out before re-seating the injector with a new seal, using a pipe cleaner style / nylon tool, compressed air is also handy to a limited degree. Don't put anything metallic in there to pick or gouge the dirt as injector seats are picky creatures.

Apologies if that's egg sucking info but always better being on the safe side!

Thanks for the advice. It’s always helpful to listen & learn of other peoples experience.
I’ll attack it this Saturday morning. I’m almost excited. Almost... lol

i'm sure it'll go smooth, makes for good meditation time taking something apart and putting it back together in better order I like to think.

Exciting times! I’ve had my Injector loom delivered today. Im on the edge of my seat with anticipation Can’t wait for Saturday morning. Hopefully it’ll be firkin freezing so I’ll have to have regular supplies of coffee in that flask cup I’ve just bought especially for this job

Well, Injector seals and washers replaced today. And the loom of course. All very straightforward. Took about 3 hours, would have been done much sooner if I hadn’t had to sort a tool to pop the injectors. Cheers for Allen key tip. I ended up using a small Allen key slotted into a universal screwdriver (the type which you remove the small bits). Worked a treat. The injectors were rather carboned up so just as well I did the seals now. Started & runs great. Just need to find another little job to do now

Interestingly, I noticed a single duck bill valve on the n/s/f fuel line in the fuel filter housing. It isn’t closing & remains slightly open. From what I’ve been told by the local LR dealers, this part is no longer supplied/fitted. So.. I removed it to see what effect this had. Car took ages to start- pump worked overtime. Went through the auto bleed process, car started. I temporarily repaired the duck bill & refitted it. Car started first time again!! If anyone is interested in replacing this valve, I’ve found a guy that supplies a small pack of them. I’m fitting a new one on mine as this little component clearly has a viral role to play!
I’ve changed the air bleed filter/valve in there also. I think that’s about it now! Have to start tinkering with my GS now I guess
