Well im starting to get the idea of what series ownership is like after another day of frustration. After not being able to remove the thermostat housing bolts i left them soaking in penetrating fluid over the weekend and decided i would attack them this morning. Well i did remove them all.....only problem is i now have two snapped bolts stuck in the block. No idea how to remove them and the car was sadly pushed back into the garage. Now i have to track down three new bolts and find someone who can help me remove the two snapped bolts. Is it always this bad ????

If there is anything left above the surface weld on a nut and the heat will break the stubs loose. barring that drill out just under the thread size and run a tap in to clean up the threads. Drill carefully - centrepunch the ramins and drill straight to centre, then work up to the needed size.
Thread on those is 5/16-24 if I recall correctly.

A very similar thing happened to my 2300 Rover SD1 back in 1993. I'm ashamed to say I glued the thermostat housing back on with JB Weld type glue which didn't leak but was a real bodge. I then sold the car the next day to a nice young couple from Norway who had come over on the ferry specially for the car. I still feel guilty
