Hi all, I know this has probably been covered in parts on here before . . but, having just found a few more holes on me chassis, I started digging around the rest of the chassis for other dodgy areas (I know this was the first mistake lol . . ) Back end of chassis looks pretty rotten to be honest just aft of the rear suspension.

Now I know you can replace the crossmember and take quite a bit of old chassis away from rear suspension area, but also got some dodgy looking areas forward of this as well (although not that bad).

Options I see are:

1. Patch the holes (although when do you stop?!?!)
2. Replace crossmember
OR
3. New chassis

With new chassis, can anyone tell me what the difference is between a 300 and a td5?? is it just engine mounts and fuel tank brackets?? Also, how difficult is it to get these brackets lined up for welding?

Cheers all . . .

My advice is to take a hammer to the chassis, dont go mad tho but no point starting to plate it to find the bit next to it is paper thin and you burn through. Welding takes time even with a mig and an hour is gone before you know it, any parts you can replace with new ones is always better than trying to plate it, and looks better.

Anyway the choice is yours, no point spending time on a knackered chassis tho, but be advised that anytime I removed a body from a chassis that I found that I ran into loads of other bits needing done on the body, and it might take you beyond what you expect, "the unfinished project"

you might end up like this too , but I cant afford a new chassis so I plated it and renewed bits all over .

rear member and extentions aint that badly priced as long as your good with a welder :D . did mine with the body still on ( jacked up an inch or 2 mnd) took a day to do :) .
