Annoying vibrations!

hi all,
I'm sure this subject has been discussed before but thought I'd post anyway to see if my symptoms are different. I have a 55 freelander td4 & it has developed a vibration. It is felt from 50 to 60 & gone by 70mph. Steering doesn't shake but it's felt through front edge of drivers seat behind your knees, also through the floor & centre console. It has 4 matched tyres & rolls in lock very freely. I'm thinking its prop shaft or vcu out of balance/alignment so might remove it & try it. Any suggestions greatly received!!
 
Thanks, will try all your suggestions. The wheels have very recently been balanced. I've only had it 2 months & when I got it the rear tyres were new & fronts near the limit so I bought 2 to match the rears & put them on the rear. I was going to whip the prop off to eliminate it, if it cures it then it may be off until after new year, any opinions on 2 wheel drive freelander?
 
ive recently had my vcu done and drove it for few weeks in 2wd..felt lose and wayward ..didnt like it, plus we got snow on the way ..and ice or so they say..with wheels just being balanced look to see if a wheel wt hasn't come off..its easy to drop the prop so you could do that just to see if vibration goes, least youll eliminate the whole prop and rear diff. another thought is wheel bearings
 
Removing the prop and it goes doesn't just mean your vibration is related to the prop. Without the forces of the 4WD transmission operating it puts less stresses on all the other transmission/suspension components - so it could be them. Take the advice above, my money is on your VCU bearings. If they've gone recently - the seller will have replaced them with aftermarket ones, which last just about long enough to sell the car!
 
Come to think of it, when I was under the truck I did notice that the rear vcu bearing had been replaced. Apart from this problem, I love the truck, but it's got to last me a few years so hope I can get it sorted!
 
101,000 miles. I work at a garage & had a 52 td4 5 door 124,000 miles, then we had this 55 td4 adventurer 3 door come in px. My boss offered me a straight swap, no money at all, so I bit his hand off!!
 
handy thing is there...get ya boss to get prop off for ya..40 min job...get them bearings sorted
my 53 plate td4 just done 83..so hoping good for a while yet
 
Thought you might like to know that the vibration is now gone! It was the rear diff front support bush which had collapsed. It runs lovely & smooth now. Thanks very much to all who took the time to reply, it is very much appreciated.
