I noticed oil coming out of the front diff, so I cleaned it all up and got all the oil off it, drove it around for a week and checked the front diff again, it had oil on it.

I took it back to the dealer to get it fixed, they said it didn't have any oil on it and that it wasn't leaking.

I just checked again and it is covered in oil, you can clearly see the oil dripping off the bottom of the front diff, and you can see where the oil is coming from!

I'm very disappointed in them, in fact, the more I think about it, the more I can see how much they have lied and contradicted themselves.

So, I messaged the guy I bought the disco off, as he won't answer his phone when I call, I have emailed the pictures above over to him, and he still has not responded. I am thinking about going to an Ombudsman and getting in touch with trading standards. They're a right bunch of shysters!!

He knows he's been rumbled that's why he won't answer, have a drive over with the evidence, face to face sometimes works better that txt/email as things can easily be misconstrune , just remain polite but firm that you want the issue sorted.

I'd leave it a few hours then try a separate number to the one you've been using catch them off guard as if you do it straight away they'll probably guess its you if they recognise the number, so to speak.

keep it pleasant and polite and ask how they want to proceed, if they get arsey then report them to trading standards

Thing is, I could replace the seal with a new 1 in half an hour for about £12 .... its the principle of the matter
exactly i cant see their issue, its not unsurprising to find such an issue, if you replace enough parts some are bound to be poor ,it goes with the job

From experience of these things Trading Standards can call the dealer but to be honest are pretty toothless and if you want to claim from the dealer (not worth it in your case) its down to you. Personally I think you will get more annoyed and hassled then its worth if you can fix it for £12 and I would do it and forget it. Name and shame the dealer on here and there are also sites for reviews of garages you can do the same.

yes, it's such a small (and cheap) job and with the gear they have it would take them 10 minutes.

That's what I'm thinking, if it was something major like the gearbox had fell apart or the engine had blown up then I would defo take it further. It's just frustrating that their saying it isn't leaking when it clearly is.

Not sure about naming and shaming, although i'm very tempted, could they sue me?

Some good news and some bad news!!

Bad news:
The transfer box is now ****ing oil out all over the place.

Good news:
After arguing with them a lot on the phone yesterday the manager wants me to take the car in so that he can have a look for himself. Apparantly he has not even bothered to look under my car and has only had the word of his mechanic. So at some point this week, in front of him and his mechanic, they are going to put my car up on the ramp so we can all have a good look.

Lets hope they agree with me that the oil seals have gone!

I might video it for evidence.

However, this is 1 good step towards fixing 2 very small and cheap jobs.

Woop!

I know what you mean. I got fekked over in Jan when I bought a used Audi A4. Phoned trading standards and they have so many complaints for used cars I got the impression they don't really follow them up. As I couldn't be bothered with a lawsuit and all that malarkey I just got it fixed.

its amazing what classes as full service history these days, I'm one of the old school crowd that keeps receipts for all work carried out and for any parts including bulbs and wiper blades,

When I was in the trade ive found issues with vehicles, mentioned them to the owners whose response is just "I just want the oil changing and the book stamped" when the car blatantly needs work carried out

I decided not to take my car to the trader i bought it from to get fixed!

I fixed this leak yesterday, what I thought was just going to be a quick oil seal change turned into quite a big job.

Turns out the reason why the oil seal had broke was because 1 of the UJ's in the front prop was smashed and was vibrating the prop, which broke the seal (I wondered what the vibration was, thought it was the air suspension).

So, here's some pics :)

I forgot to take a picture of the oil seal, however, there is now no more leaking oil from the front diff and the car feels a lot smoother to drive!

:)
