hi all. Brand new here and hope this is in the right place....

I’ve a 54 plate Discovery 3 and the stereo volume has stopped working. I’ve been told it’s the amplifier that needs replacing (a common fault?!).

A brand new one is £840, but I’ve located several via breakers etc., but I need to know if it’s just a case of swapping the amplifiers over or will it need to be “programmed” or something before it works?

Any advice would be so gratefully receiced.
TIA
Claire

Hi Claire and welcome

What model have u got please, is ur disco a HSE , reason I ask is there are different amps , so when u remove the old amp tell the breakers what u have

They are a straight swap , don’t need to reprogram anything

They come out from the back of the seat , saves u having to remove the seat or seat cushion

If u look at the amp have u got a red or yellow light showing plse

Thks and hope that helps

Thank you so much for your reply. Most helpful. It’s a TDV6 SE.

IM not sure re the light... haven’t seen any light on there

It’s Harman Kardon if that helps?

Thks for the info, the lights are normally on the side of the amp

Daft question if i may have u checked the fuse behind the passenger glove box , is fuse F42, when u check the fuse and put it back in it also resets the amp

In the same token , Pull this fuse when the amp is removed

Have u got a multimeter so u can check u have power at the amp before u replace it, if not is there a local garage that can test it for u if u haven’t got any test equipment

With these vehicles and there complexity is best to buy a diagnostic code reader, which will save u a lot of money in the long run

Have also enclosed a fuse location diagram, know it shows LHD but fuse numbers are the same

Hope that helps

Wow. Thank you
Hi. Sorry if this sounds “girlie”, but I can’t find a fuse f42, nor a light on the amp. I’ve taken these photos in hope you can advise further ‍♀️♀️

There's another fuse box behind the glove box. If you open the glove box there should be a couple of tabs you can press in to drop it all the way down.

Any fuse box generally, if you look at the underside of the cover there's a diagram with each fuse numbered.

There's a fair few 'blokes' who wouldn't attempt what you are trying to sort

Awww thanks for support

I’ve located internal fuse box, found F42, removed it (after eventually locating the little tweezers lol) and then dropped it! Eventually found it and put it back in to reset amp but still no sound. Presume this means amp knackered? Still can not locate a light of any sort on amp. It’s Harmon Kardon and looks like attached. Any more advice? Do I need to buy a new fuse and try that first?

Did you check it first ?

Also you get some greenish corrosion around the pins on the fuseboard where the fuse plugs into ...this can cause problems ...

Have you checked with a multimeter or lightbulb on two wires if there is electrickery getting to one side of said fuse ?
