There does seem to be some confusion now on the thread between the electric solenoid version and the home made manual linkage.
Impressed with what hughdavies come up with to achieve a working and practical difflock without spending the 300 quid on the linkage, including last post for keeping ****e out.
Totally agree with Big Phil on electrical solenoid device, works but one of my main reasons for wanting to get my difflock in service is as I regularly launch a fairly heavy boat....in fresh water....sometimes in dodgy conditions, slippery rocks, mud, holes etc. I dont think id be happy with an electrical set up as sure as **** the one time I need it, it will fail having been submerged and subjected to salt and crap from the roads.
I had heard on Jordantd5 idea before with disco 1 cdl linkage and I can see me going for this. I am keeping an eye out on ebay for the parts altho might have to contact breakers to get one.

Thing is if you think you might need it then use it. Just like going into 4x4 when in questionable fields, if in doubt use it before it is needed

Yeh i know what you mean, would be better to have it engaged first, pants down before you **** etc.. I suppose in same respect, until I fit a permanent arrangement, I could nip under disco with a 10mm spanner and engage then disengage as required when boat launching.
